Dog Days of Summer: Treating Minor Burns

Don't leave your grills (or pets) unsupervised at any outdoor parties! Have some extra sticks and balls to distract him from hovering around the BBQ and your yums. If your speedy pup grabs something piping hot, or gets too close to the grill, you should have a plan, and supplies, to treat paw burns.

If your dog is walking as if in pain, incessantly licking his paws, or you spot any cracking or blistering on the pads, he could have a minor burn. (Remember the dangers of sidewalks and hot sand, too.)

If he suffers a burn such as this, apply a cool, wet compress to sooth. Clean the wound then cover with a pet-safe burn ointment or spray – yet another use for aloe – and wrap with gauze. I especially like this first aid kit ($18) because it includes an antiseptic, liquid bandage spray, sterile eyewash, non-stick pad, and gauze roll for all those emergencies.

I want to include my pooch in our fireworks-less Fourth of July plans, but North and yums mix all too well! He's very well-behaved outdoors with many things to sniff (and has a lovely red-and-white striped harness), but I'm worried to have him so close to a hot grill. . . . and all that temptation. With pets near a BBQ tomorrow, or any day for that matter, give them plenty of safe space away from the savory smells, or keep them indoors or leashed while burgers are flippin'. If you must pamper a pooch with people food, save a bit of unmarinated, boneless chicken breast or other cooked lean, skinless meat as a freshly-grilled snack. Remember, even though bones sound like great dog treats, I don't recommend giving these items from your table to your pups as many can splinter in their throats or cause canines to choke.

Condiment Costumes: Spoiled Sweet or Spoiled Rotten?

Even though they're surely meant for Halloween, can't you see these two fitting right in at your next Summer BBQ? The Great Outdoors: Menu Wasp Trap

When the weather heats up this Summer, there's no doubt that you and your pampered pals will be outside spending some quality time with the BBQ, sprinklers, and endless hours tossing tennis balls. Out and About: The Beasley in Vancouver, B.C.

I've made my way to Vancouver a number of times, by train and by car, and I have to say it's one of my favorite cities and is always a pleasure to visit. From their fab Stanley Park to amazing shopping (especially on Robson St.), really makes for a cool city to spend some time wandering around in. To me, Vancouver always seemed to be ahead of the trends when it came to sustainable living, and now, they are on point to start another trend for condo and apartment living: decks made for your pups built right into luxury apartments!

A 33-story high rise dubbed The Beasley, located in the trendy Yaletown district of downtown Vancouver, has a number of standard amenities that you would come to expect in any new development including a gym, meeting area, and outdoor patios for bbq's, but it's definitely the first of its kind dog deck that sets it apart from other surrounding high rises. Located on the eighth floor, the 2,000-square-foot outdoor Dog Deck is not only bigger than most apartments here in SF, but boasts an area for your furry pals to run and play, places for you to sit and relax, plus a special doggie wash and grooming station so your poochies can get nice and clean before heading back inside. Paris and Paris get engaged

The parents must be so proud to combine their bank accounts. These two will have more money than they know what to do with. People Magazine reports the Paris Hilton got engaged on Wednesday of last week after her return from the three week promo trip in Europe. The couple celebrated Sunday night with a BBQ with 75 friends and family. It will be the first wedding for both and Hilton has already reported she wants kids in the next couple of years.

Here are some pictures of Paris in LA running errands this weekend. She has double dogs, double fisting the cell phones and gets a parking ticket. Sounds like a lot of excitement for one weekend. Also, no reports on the size of her ring and I don't have any pics with her even wearing a ring, but I'm sure well see something grand soon.

And here's the happy couple this weekend leaving Koi....see no ring. stay tuned.
