I love a good cause, and Canine Assistants surely is one! This non-profit provides service dogs (at no cost) to children and adults with mobility impairments, seizures, and other disabilities. In honor of Milk-Bone's 100th Anniversary, the food company teamed up with celebrity pet-photographer, Christopher Ameruoso, to capture "Milk-Bone Moments" between celebrities and their pets. The results: stunning one-of-a-kind photographs with autographs and pawtographs available for you! All proceeds from this eBay auction will benefit the Canine Assistants organization – act quickly it ends this Saturday, May 31! With the passing of Gidget, I'm wondering if there will be a rush to claim a piece of her past in the form of key chains, talking toys, and t-shirts all over the Internet. Take these tees for example, the doggie-sized shirts come in three colors ($15) and commemorate the classic commercial on your own pets.

My quick search found a pretty big selection still up for grabs on eBay and, if you're interested, there are open auctions to bring the original merchandise to your house. So are you?

Petchitecture 2008 - Going Green with the Animals

The annual Petchitecture festivities, held here in San Francisco, brings talented architects together to design some amazing habitats for pups, kitties, and fishies that are auctioned off for charity. This year, the beloved event went green and produced not only eco-friendly and sustainable homes, but some that I would like to see produced and put on the market! For select, lucky pampered pals, their owners bid at the auction and got to take a fab home . . . home but, for others, just being at the event was winning enough! I was stoked to attend the event and got tons of snaps of adoro pups (and even a rabbit) that partied along with me! Wanna Eat (Vegan) Lunch With Alicia Silverstone?

Give back to a great cause this season with Farm Sanctuary's Charity Buzz Holiday Auction. The amazing opportunities include tickets and backstage passes to Joan Jett (plus a personalized and signed electric guitar), a surfing lesson with Daniela Sea (The L Word), and a vegan lunch in Los Angeles with Alicia Silverstone. Currently drawing the highest bid is the visit to the set of Californication and a meet-and-greet with star David Duchovny.

Along with once-in-a-lifetime celebrity meetings, the 65 items to bid on include concerts, getaways, dinners, unique gifts, and more - with all proceeds benefiting the Farm Sanctuary. Working to promote compassionate living through rescue, education, and advocacy of farm animals, they also host a 175-acre shelter in Upstate New York and another 300-acre shelter in Northern California dedicated to lifelong care and rehabilitation of neglected creatures. Opportunities to place a bid and give back to animals, via the online auction, ends on Dec. 17.

Smooch-a-Pooch Celebrity Doggie Bags

It's hard for me to wrap my head around the sweet swag celebrities get for themselves and their furry friends. Not just at award shows either. Recently, famous pet owners from Oprah Winfrey and Martha Stewart to Jessica Simpson and Sarah Jessica Parker were mailed these fab Smooch-a-Pooch Doggie Bags. I know I'd love to have one of these sweet sets myself with over $600 worth of merchandise. There's one being auctioned off on eBay where 100 percent of the proceeds go towards Dogs Who Care, a nonprofit that raises money for shelters and sanctuaries across the country. Shop Spotlight: Babies SF

One of Santa's little helpers at this year's Petchitecture event was Michael Cunningham, owner of one of my fave pet shops here in the city, Babies. He donated tons of tasty treats to please the furry guests, and buckets of goodies for the silent auction that brought in much needed funds for the Pets are Wonderful Support (PAWS), a volunteer-based organization that provides for the comprehensive needs of companion animals for low-income persons with HIV/AIDS, other disabling illnesses, and senior citizens. Since I dig his store (and his big heart), I thought I would give you a tour at Babies' brand new location at Laguna and Linden in the hip Hayes Valley area of San Francisco.

While I was there, I picked Michael's brain about some of the hottest trends of the upcoming summer season, his dog food of choice, and his fave celeb pets. To find out what he had to say, and to take a photo tour of the shop, just read more.

PS: What are the top three pet trends for the upcoming Summer season?
MC: For sure, anything "green" is popular, as well as sports themed products like shirts, collars and leashes, and toys. And pet parties are a big hit for the summer as well.

PS: In your opinion, what dog food can you buy that gives you the most bang for your buck, as well as being good for your pet?
MC: I would choose Canidae, since it's good for all life stages and, if you were going raw, I would choose Primal.

PS: Speaking of raw diets, how do you feel about them?
MC: It's a great idea for most pets, and I have seen it have miraculous results. But you do have to be a bit more organized and structured for it to work right!

PS: Do you have any favorite celebrity pets?
MC: We've actually helped out a number of celebrity pets in our store. My favorites include Finoula and Sabrina, Katie Lee and Billy Joel's pups. I also love Jane Fonda's pup Tulea, Hilary Swank's Karu and Salma Hayek's dog Diva, as well as Sophie, Oprah's dog. Chris Isaak, Sarah McLachlan, Tracy Chapman, Keith Richards and Amanda Brown's pets are so cute too. I guess all the pets that come in are my favorite!

Green Habitats from Petchitecture 2008!

As you can tell from the partying pet piccys, this year's Petchitecture event was not only eco-friendly, but totally fun as well. The unique fundraiser to support the PAWS organization featured specially designed habitats that were auctioned off and all had two things in mind: pets and Mother Earth. Thankfully, that nod to the planet extended all the way to the inner workings of the event itself, which cut its mailed invites from 10,000 to 1,500 (printed on 100 percent recycled paper with soy-based ink), eliminated event programs, and had any posters printed on recycled paper as well.As for the designs, this one by William Duff Architects was my fave – with a solar device that cools the inside – perfect for your cat or small-sized pooch. It didn't stop there as the event featured tons of genius and hip designs! Check out more in the gallery when you read more.
