I imagine it's hard work being the country's most trusted newscaster, and if you tuned into The Daily Show last night, you can see what I mean. If you missed it, Jon Stewart put up the choice to cover healthcare reform . . . or a cute kitten video. He looked just as torn up as I felt when healthcare won out. So, to satisfy my kitty craving, I dug up the entire video he showed for just a few seconds: three cats playing in a tissue box. Awww-dorable!

I love to tweet and sometimes post about the animals I see while out and about and my new group makes it more fun (and easier!) than ever. One of the newest features of the PetSugar Community is the ability to mobile blog! To celebrate I've created a Spotted! group where you can share photos of the cute pets you pass, wildlife you encounter and any breed or product questions you come across on those daily adventures.

Mobile blogging is simple to get started:

If you're not already a community member, create an account.
Next up, click Join Group on the top right-hand side of the Spotted! group.
After you register, please go to Edit Profile under your member name drop-down, click on the Post by Email tab, and follow the simple instructions on that page.
Now you're free to post piccys straight from your cell phone! Simply send a message with the photo attached, a title in the subject line, and any text in the body of the email to spotted@onsugar.com - you'll get an email back asking you to confirm so just reply and it should show up in just a few minutes! (Get a detailed explanation of how to do this here.)

Coming Soon! Artist Gets His Own Show

With an overwhelming majority of you voting him as your favorite to win season one of Groomer Has It, I know you're going to love this news: Artist is getting his own Animal Planet show! Called Beverly Hills Groomer, Artist will be (and I quote) "taking his dream from the hood to the Hills."

But the show won't only be about his daily life as a mobile groomer - Artist will also be taking your questions in an Ask Artist segment of the show. It's like a two for one! We'll be completely entertained with his personality and encounters with the rich and famous, and be learning something at the same time. I'm pretty doggone excited to see Artist take on Beverly Hills, but will you be watching?

The Scoop: How Dogs (and Wolves) Pick Potty Places

If you've got a male dog, I'm betting you notice his gravitation to certain spots to do his business – North has his favorite hydrant and lamp posts in our neighborhood. I knew about the reasoning behind marking, but a new study takes that one step further. It explains that dogs aren't just choosing the same spots, they pick prominent urban landscape features that "maximize visual impact and odor distribution."Not to get too graphic here, but this study is the first to examine the poop side, looking at fecal marking of wild wolves to see how choices can tell others about territory control, mating status, and more. Of the 101 "droppings" examined, 74.8 percent were in conspicuous spots showing that wolves chose places and plants of a certain height, diameter, and type, frequenting popular locations and multidirectional crossroads. Lisa Peterson, director of communications for the AKC weighed into Discovery News, adding:

That's probably why when little dogs urinate, they often lift their back leg up as high as possible – sometimes looking as though they're nearly falling over – because they're trying to pee as high as they possibly can.

So here's your homework: Next time you're out, pay attention to see if your pooches prefer to do no. 2 in the same spots on your daily walks and if they use a super-high leg lift for no.1!

Creating a Play Routine May Help Pup Adjust to Strangers!

Do you have a playful pup that seems to have one thing on his mind (maybe two . . . after yums)? Well, according to a new study, experts say that the desire to play can often overtake any other instincts, like fear, in dogs. So, after a routine of games were established with a pampered pet, even strangers could get a dog to come play. The study examined 68 well-adjusted pups that had obedience and agility training, lived in their owner's homes, and were well cared for in addition to six factors that the researchers examined. Learn what these were – and the results – when you read more.

Familiarity of the play partner: The study showed that when presented with a favorite game, most of the dogs played equally with anyone in sight!
Type of game: Although there was some variation – males were a tad less scaredy ~~cats~~ dogs – both genders enjoyed playtime.
Age: While puppies are more often playful, they also may not have as many established fears – and, since the older dogs played, too, this factor was out.
Breeds: Even though some breeds (like über-enthusiastic terriers) seemed more excited when playing, all dogs wanted to play the games with their new, not-yet pals.
Ordinary amount of daily interaction between dog and owner: And we have a winner! How much the dog played on a daily basis seemed to affect how motivated or fearful the dog was during the study. This caused Lila Toth, lead author, to offer the following advice:

It could mean that if, over time, the dog and its owner develop a routine of games, the dog could generalize these behavior routines to other play situations with another unfamiliar person, and the dog is less prone to misunderstanding human intentions.

Do Tell: Renting With Pets?

I spent agonizing weeks searching for pet-friendly apartments both in New York and San Francisco – it wasn't easy to find a place that welcomed my lil guy! The Dogs Trust offers these helpful tips for finding a home with your animals:

Write a pet résumé including dog's breed, size, age, activity level, and special accomplishments or training.
Get pet references from prior landlords, trainers, or others that know your pet well.
Offer proof from a vet of vaccinations, neutering, and any deworming and flea medications.
Explain his daily routine (e.g., visitors, dog walkers, daycare) to show how your pet will be cared for in your absence.

Are You Blogging About Your Pet?

Some of my favorite blogs are written especially for pets like lil Luna here (of Luna's My Dog) who would make a perf girlfriend for North one day. Blogs that chronicle daily adventures to the park, the beach, or on vacay can be a great way to show off adoro piccys of a super star pet to admirers around the world. Any little story, even about the crazy way they sleep and talk, is perfect blogging fodder!

I've considered starting a blog just for North, but between logging in my hours here and important puppy QT, I'm not sure I have the energy! But, for some people, showing off their pets to the world is a great way to get creative. So tell me, do you blog about your pet?
