I caught an old episode of Mr. Ed the other night and it reminded me of just how many TV shows I've watched over the years that feature pets! Some are a little unusual, but lots are familiar friends. We've talked about animals in movies lately, but what about those making appearances on the small screen?

While the majority 'fessed up to leaving music on for pets, would you ever do the same thing with TV? My pooch seldom notices the television (he'll occasionally perk up if there's a bark coming off the small screen), but never glances at the set.Just 'cause North doesn't share my love for Gossip Girl won't stop me from being captivated nor do I expect him to sit fingers paws crossed for Chloe to make her debut this season, but what happens when you're tuned in to your fave show: Do your furry friends watch you, watch it, or use this time to get into mischief in the next room?

While most of us decided "gifting" a pet was a no-no back when it happened on October Road, seems like other shows still get into the pet-as-present idea. On last night's episode of Men in Trees, Jack offered up some cutie pie pups to Marin which provided quite a bit of distraction to her life – I think above Code Red should be Code New Puppy! While I don't think it was the wisest choice, and definitely doesn't model the best decision making, I have to remind myself that it's TV, not reality.

It's not uncommon to have some exasperation and exaggeration when describing a pet but, if talking to strangers, you have to assume every word will be taken literally. Jon Gosselin described his family's interaction with their two dogs to People:
Those kids beat them up, climb on them, pull their tails, bite at them, drag them around and everything you can imagine not to do to an animal, they've done.
There was then so much outcry — dozens of complaints to the local Humane Society of Berks County, Pa — that he issued a second statement:
Whenever my kids are with Shoka and Nala, everyone is carefully supervised to ensure that no one – dog or child – is injured.

With a house full of pets, it's no surprise that sometimes things don't go as well as planned at the Playboy mansion. Even if you're not a fan of Hugh Hefner, he certainly loves to fill his house with animals . .
