What's Your Take: Do Pets Have a "Subjective Value?"

After nearly three years of litigation (!), the case of Dexter has come to an end. When Doreen Houseman and Eric Dare ended their relationship in May 2006, a New Jersey court ruled Eric could keep their pug since it was in his possession at the time. However, earlier this year, an appeals panel reversed the decision saying the judge neglected to consider the dog's "subjective value", making him more like a family heirloom or work of art that cannot simply be awarded to one party for a face-value payment - Doreen received $1,500 - no one can measure Dexter's exact worth.

Now the pup will rotate every five weeks between the homes of the separated couple - do you agree with the "subjective value" decision overturning the custody ruling?

Pugs Strike a Pose in Vogue

If there is anything cuter than a gaggle of smooshy Pugs running all over a posh mansion, sipping tea, and showing off their super long tongues like in this month's Vogue Italia, then please let me know! Fellow animal lover Fab gave me the heads up on the cutie-patootie pugs, who are posing with the gorgeous supermodel Linda Evangelista in this high brow June spread. But pup models aren't strictly an Italian trend, Pomeranians are found playing in the pages of the June issue of Vogue here in the states, too! This is definitely a fashion trend I don't mind seeing – animals as models, not as clothes. Nothing against the beautiful Linda E., but I'd pick up the mag just to see the tubby puppies! Found! Eva Longoria Parker's Pink Presents for Her New Puppy

Remember Eva Longoria Parker's new pal for her pet, Jinxy? Turns out she's named the new lil Pug, Oprah, and is already spoiling her with girly girl gear! Last week she stopped at Bark N' Bitches in LA and picked up a couple pink leather collars with bone bling ($29) and this pink "Monster" rhinestone skull hoodie ($32) in two different sizes to account for her quickly growing pup. Lucky lass, it looks like Eva's sharing her love for the sparkle with her dog.

Frequented by celebrities including Rihanna and Bobby Brown, the shop stocks gear for pooches of all sizes – in fact, the owner's rescue pittie is often on hand to lend a helping paw and nose! Plus, it doesn't stop there as they also hold pet adoptions in store every Saturday, acting as a major participant with local nonprofit rescue organization, Dogs Without Borders.

New Puppy Alert! Eva Longoria Parker

Why hello there, smooshy face! Looks like Eva wanted to get a close-up look at your smushy, mushy goodness before taking you home! Jinxy (aka, the white fluffer, whose tail you see on Eva's lap) just got a new BFF yesterday when she picked out the new Pug puppy to be a pal for the other pooch. When adding a new member to your furry fam, it's important to see if they get along so I'm extra happy even Jinxy got to take part in the selection process! If you're adding a new pup, introduce them on neutral ground, not in your home or yard to prevent early turf wars. Let them approach, sniff, and walk around each other without you interacting (or interfering a ton) with either one. It helps to be low key yet encouraging with a mellow happy-puppy voice – and be ready to step in if things suddenly go awry.

As captivating as paper shadow and nature patterns can be, why not download awwww-inducing screen savers from the movie Must Love Dogs? Yes, I realize it's more than a couple years old and, yes, I also realize that many of you probably never saw it – all the more reason to check these pups out now. Their adorable, slobbery faces make it hard to walk away from your computer when it goes idle, and even harder to start working again. Best yet, they're free for both Mac and PC!

Lifelike Pug Purse: Spoiled Sweet or Spoiled Rotten?

From what Molly tells me, Pug owners have a special love for their smooshies – after all we celebrate "Pug Sunday" here in San Francisco! I shouldn't be that surprised to see this breed as a bag, right? Well, as the designer, Jennifer Liu, explains, it's "all of the affection, none of the responsibility" with this dog purchase. Don't get me wrong, it's certainly way fancier than any dog I've seen – crystal paws and silk linings – and can be scooped up for under $50 . . . my only question is: Are you doing the scooping?

Please Help the Purloined Pug!

Now, when I first heard the story about missing Scooter in late December, I had no idea the twist it would take. For those of you not familiar with the case, this Pug apparently dug the way out of his Dallas backyard on Christmas Eve and when his owners, Rob and Kim Velevis, returned home from running errands . . . there was no doggie. The awful twist here is that, shortly after the new year, they received a typewritten letter (postmarked from Tulsa) telling them that a woman in fact had their dog (and their address from his collar), but decided to give the dog to her daughter, and included $20 to thank them. The couple is offering to buy the girl her own dog in exchange for getting their loved one back and have created this email account (bringscooterhome@gmail.com) for any tips. I can't even articulate how upset this story makes me, so I've included a clip of their heartbreaking news appearance when you read more.
