Two Bizarre Ways to Put Your Dogs to Work at a Tailgate

It's nearly game time - since your dogs' tail waggin' tailgate is already in full effect, now it's your turn . . . to get them a gift that keeps on giving.

The ~~stylish~~ functional Tailgate Companion has six pockets to put your pooch to work - use it to hold grilling essentials, icy beverages, or even mustard and ketchup (if he's not already sporting it).

If that's not quite his style, swap out a normal neckpiece for the new Kurgo Wander Collar. Its leash ring doubles as a bottle opener. Kinda brilliant in theory yet, while there aren't any laws about walking a dog while drunk, I'm guessing this could violate an open-container policy on normal city streets. But at a tailgate - no problemo.

An essential duty of kitty ownership is cleaning up the poop - can't be avoided. Now there are plenty of pricey products that come highly recommended (like the Litter Robot); however, community member Arcsis shared her love for an affordable alternative in the Street Team -this Omega Paw Roll 'n Clean Litter Box ($29):

My favorite thing about this is you never have to touch, or even come close to touching waste. You fill it with your favorite scooping litter, roll it upside down, roll back and empty the drawer. The end. Litter changed. I dump mine into scented garbage bags and toss in the bathroom trash.

I've read a few reviews about litter slipping out when you roll it. You need to put it together correctly, and make sure the clips are secure before you roll. My only issue is that small litter particles and/or dust does slip through the seam, but I need to sweep the stray litter from kitty's paws on the floor anyway, so it's a tiny, tiny problem. Not worth docking this wonderful product a star.

Swoop In to Scoop the Poop

If you don't like handling poop - but don't hate it enough to buy a PooTrap - here's another way for you to be a hands-off, responsible dog owner. The Swoop Dog Poop Scooper ($20) and Swoop Mini Pooper Scooper ($18) lets a plastic mechanical hand do your dirty work. Fitting either their special biodegradable bags, or your ordinary grocery store variety, attach the sack on the bottom and it grabs and bags the waste keeping your hands completely clean.

Would You Turn an Ordinary Crate Into a Luxury Cabana?

Who says Labor Day marks the figurative end of Summer?! Certainly not me, as I'm trying to squeeze in a few more weekends of fun in the sun with my pooch, who is a big fan of bringing the outdoors in (on his paws and coat). This crate cover turns my ordinary living room into cabana central.

With two contrasting panels, the crate cover ($95) even comes with the rollup door often spotted beachside - and North needs to nap in peace . . . on the matching pillow bed ($115), of course. Are you craving this style or will you stick to creating blanket tents in your household?

New Product Alert! Rage Against the Maltese

Aww, what did that adoro fluffy animal ever do to you?! I'm betting this clever shirt got its name based on the common letters between Maltese and machine, but still I've got nothing but love for the teacup pups. (If rage involves chasing and licking, North has a lot of that . . . toward most breeds!)

Regardless, rockin' company Rockstar Puppy recently tweeted about its new tees, and I had to check 'em out. I'm loving this one best but they've got bands of all genres. If you have any other musically inspired group/breed names or song suggestions, "Whippet good" and share in the comments below.

Hand-Dyed Dog Collars For Just $35!

I first learned about Jon Wye during my chat with The Lazy Environmentalist - although they're best known for a line of leather belts, he also offers some super-unique doggie collars by FREDFRED. Priced at $35, the leather is 100 percent full grain (no composite here) and all designs are hand-dyed with numerous layers to get the rich hues and shades in each item. They've got a bunch of unique patterns and designs, but I've gotta go bananas - monkey see, monkey do. No matter what pattern you choose for your pup they're all coated with the same treatment that covers your car's leather upholstery. So no matter the messes he gets in, the pretty piece's protected.

Blueblood Pups Sleep on St. Barths (or Martha's Vineyard)

I've got vacation on the brain so when I spotted cheekily named dog beds, I imagined myself hitting up one of these spots with North resting alongside.

I love the color palettes used for the Blueblood products - they'll leave you green with envy and red in the face that they don't make them in human sizes!

The full bed/cover set runs $105-$210 but, for those Molly Mutt stuff sack fans, you can also purchase just the pretty covers for $76-$150. In addition to these lovely resting spots, they've got adorable collars and leashes, but I
only wish they'd add harnesses to their lineup next!

Pampered Pals: Dogleg Diner

Well, these dishes have four propped feet so I guess the name Dogleg Diner ($98) is appropriate, but I still imagine a soda fountain with pups on roller skates. OK, that's just me. Anyway, coming in four powder-coated steel colors, these solid stands will hold up to even those vigorously greedy gobblers.

With a small size holding one quart and a medium with two, they'll work for cats and big dogs since the height ranges from about five to 10 inches tall. Surely this would be up to your kitchen's high-design standards - but is the dollar amount too pricey for your recession budget?
