Breaking News: Lucy, the Lucky Palm Dog Winner at Cannes!

Four paws up to the super cute canine, Lucy, this year's lucky Palm Dog winner at Cannes! This mixed-breed pooch is part hunting dog and part retriever and was lucky enough to star alongside Michelle Williams in Wendy and Lucy. From what I can tell, the pup plays a major role in the film that follows their journey to Alaska, where Wendy hopes for a Summer of lucrative work at the fish cannery . . . until her car breaks down in Oregon, that is. It seems that Lucy was unable to receive today's award in person . . . errr, in dog . . . because she lives in Queens, NY so her diamante collar award was received by owner, and film director, Kelly Reichardt. However, there were plenty of new pictures of another pooch (who looks suspiciously close to that famed pup, Frank, from Men in Black). Now the original Palm Dog spokespup, Muttley, passed away last month so I wonder if this smooshy is taking his celebripup place for this ceremony?! Only time will tell but check out the fab beachside photoshoot with this puggy lad! I don't know who he is, but he sure is adoro!

In the Spotlight: Buddy Loves America (and Lucy, Too)

Look who made a special visit to the Ugly Betty set – America Ferrera's two furry friends. The Golden Retriever named Buddy seems to be needing some extra love, while Lucy (the Great Dane) needs some extra warmth with that sleek coat. It's so nice to take time out of a busy filming day for some QT with her pets especially when that includes snuggles and kisses!

I wonder how often the doggies come to set, and whether either will make it onto the small screen sometime soon – I spot some true walk-on potential here with these scene stealers.

Nardo and Lucy Are Married (and in Love)!

Quick-Thinking Zookeepers Save Woman From Hungry Bears

Last Friday, a 32-year-old woman leaped a fence and scaled a wall to jump into a Berlin Zoo enclosure holding four polar bears (including Knut). Six zookeepers attempted to distract the bears, but she was still bitten several times by one of the creatures. Even though it was their normal feeding time, she was able to be pulled out safely – minus those injuries – and was rushed to the hospital for surgery. Now after my initial shock, I flashbacked to a similar situation that so disturbed me as a child, that I instantly recalled that story when hearing this one. In 1987, three kids broke into the Brooklyn's Prospect Park Zoo after dark, and attempted to swim in the polar bears' moat. One child was attacked by the bears, locals called police when hearing yells but, by the time the officials arrived, the animals had eaten both his legs . . . and the officers shot and killed both bears. As a child, I was unable to comprehend most of this situation, including why they still killed Teddy and Lucy. Now, I assume we'll hear more about this 32-year-old woman's motives in coming weeks, but I commend the Berlin Zoo's quick-thinking keepers to attempt to save this women without instantly harming the bears in the process.

I Need Your Help . . . A Bacterial Infection Irritates My Dog!

Meet Lucy. The Basset Hound mix has the trademark droopy ears but she also has another not-so-adorable addition (or, in this case, loss) – her hair. The pooch has been experiencing extreme skin irritation and itching over the past year.
Her owner writes:

The vet has diagnosed Lucy's problem as bacterial but the shampoos and pills I have been given to help the problem have not worked. We give her allergy pills from the vet both morning and night hoping this will help her, yet she continues to bite and scratch. This problem is only on her underside and legs – she is losing hair and I know she is just miserable! Has anyone had this problem with their dog or can you offer suggestions to help her feel better?
