New Product Alert! Bespoke Dog Accessories Collection

Best known for his quality leather duffles and briefcases, Britain-based Bill Amberg expanded his business to include our furry friends, launching a new Bespoke dog accessories collection in London on Tuesday.

Including a chic bed, leather lead, and shearling-lined coat, there are no prices listed online yet, but I'm betting the hand-crafted, vegetable-dyed leather won't come too cheaply. Check out the shown off items in the gallery and let me know if anything catches your fancy in the comments below.

London Zoo Welcomes First Lion Cubs in 10 Years!

Let's call these cubs Cute One and Cute Two - the 10-week-old babes were the first of their species born at the London Zoo in 10 years!

The girl and boy lions were born to Abi, a 10-year-old lioness, and Lucifer, a 6-year-old male, and are critically endangered Asian lions. Even though nearly all non-captive lions live in sub-Saharan Africa, there's one small population - probably between 200 and 300 - in India's Gir Forest. So, with such a tiny wild population, every birth is a bundle of species-saving joy!

Lily Allen's Pup Gets a New Name and a New Toy!

It's not that hard to change a pet's name . . . especially if she comes with one you can't see yourself shouting across the dog park! You may recognize this pup as Honey, but Lily Allen changed the name of her newly-rescued dog to Mable. Awwww!The new BFFs are hitting up all sorts of spots in London like super-hip Primrose Hill Pets for a pretty pink collar and leash (that looks similar to celeb fave, Mendota) before running around Primrose Hill itself. My eagle eyes immediately recognized this new toy to chase – a Jungle Ball ($5), perfect for tough chewers like Staffordshire Bullies!

New Doggy Alert! Lily Allen's Rescued Pup

This hair color is not the only recent change in Lily Allen's life – she picked up a new dog yesterday! Meet Honey, the rescued pooch from London's Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. The singer shared her thoughts on the pup in a blog post last week:

Anyways in other news, I'm getting a dog from Battersea dogs home, I found her on the weekend, and after a visit from a rehoming officer hopefully, I'll have her by next week. She's called Honey and she's quite fat (insert dogs like their owners joke here), but very sweet, she's a mongrel. There were so many Staffordshire Bullies there, it was so sad. People should really think about getting puppies from breeders or breeding them for that matter, if you saw all those poor dogs without a home with their sad little faces, you wouldn't even think about buying dogs from people who profit.

In the Spotlight: Harrods, Puppies, and Kim Cattrall

I was super excited to spot these furballs in the arms of Kim Cattrall at the opening of the annual Summer Sale at Harrods yesterday because, ummm, when am I not excited for puppies?! At first, I was a bit baffled why these cutie doxie models were involved at all but my eagle eyes discovered that she's actually seen here in the pet department – check out those red toy squeaky slippers in the background!

This department store has some of my fave merch for our furry friends – in fact, when I spent all that time in London, I picked up a cute tshirt for my dog that he still wears to this day!

Oscar and Friends: A Tribute to London's Famous Pup

The Scoop: London's Dog Walk of Fame

As we were discussing our fave animals in film and TV, I discovered that London was way ahead of the game when it comes to honoring our favorite furry actors. London's Dog Walk of Fame, unveiled in November in the heart of Battersea Park, spotlights achievements by beloved animal actors. Founded by the Kennel Club and Sky Movies, the Dog Walk of Fame's goal is to honor the work and contributions of the world's scene-stealing pups of the silver screen.

Each year, the British public votes on a new four-legged star to induct into the walk of fame. Ian Lewis, Director of Sky Movies knows how important animals are to our lives, as well as film:

"Dogs were long-overdue a permanent celebration of their unique contribution to film history. The Dog Walk Of Fame will do just that. The first inductees into the Dog Walk of Fame - from Gromit to Lassie, Toto to Fang, share an indelible place in the hearts of film lovers of all ages.”

Instead of the well-known sidewalk stars they use in Hollywood, the Dog Walk will dedicate a bench donned with a commemorative plaque for everyone to enjoy while walking their own four-legged families. So far, honorees include Lassie, Toto from The Wizard of Oz, as well as Chance and Shadow from Homeward Bound (two of our personal faves) among others. The next inductee will be announced in November.

Found! London's Striped Sweater

Huge sunglasses . . . check. Messy hair . . . check. London . . . check. Hmm, but what's this I see?! A cute, stripey top (on the dog). After some searching, and much zoom-in examining, I was shocked to find the Houndstooth Striped Sweater by DC at Petco on sale 'til 1/31 for $7.50 (originally $14.99). I'm wondering if Brit picked it up waaaay back when she also bought a goldfish at that shop . . . and a bit curious about the serious downgrading from the Kwigy-bo carrier and Little Lily dress we've spotted in the past. I couldn't bear to let lil' London wear something so basic, so see the more paps-worthy version (at twice the price) I've picked when you read more.

IMO, this heart rugby sweater is much more pantworthy. . . but let me know what you think in your comments below!

The Queen's Corgis Sweep Fidos!

Winning both the "Historical Hound" and "Best in World" awards, the Corgi stars of The Queen represented in royal fashion at The Fidos. Four of the five pooches – Anna, Poppy, Megan, Alice, and Oliver – who played the part(s) were present on the red carpet in England at yesterday's event, and are pictured above with Oscar winner, Helen Mirren. The other winners included pups from Year of the Dog ("Comedy Canine"), Shooter ("Blockbuster Bowser"), and short film, Dog Flap ("Cupcake Cinema").

These awards were produced by Toby Rose, also the producer of the prestigious Palm Dog award at the Cannes Film Festival. This event is the world's first international award ceremony exclusively for canine stars of the big screen, and marks the first time dogs have been allowed on the red carpet and into the National Film Theatre building in Southbank. Congratulations!

The Fidos Crown Top Dog From the Silver Screen

Inspired by the Palm Dog, the canine version of the Palme d'Or award at Cannes each year, the BFI London Film Festival now presents The Fidos, the world's first international awards for dog stars of the big screen on October 28.

Up for grabs are awards in the following categories:

Historical Hound – a dog in a film set in bygone days.
Blockbuster Bowser – for achievement in an action flick.
Comedy Canine – the smoochiest pooch in a romantic comedy.
Cupcake Cinema – dogs in a short film.
Best in World – the top honour, for a top dog.

Among the nominees are dogs featured in movies like Molière and Control. My favorites are the five Corgis (Anna, Poppy, Megan, Alice, and Oliver) from The Queen. Their onscreen mama, Helen Mirren, already won an Oscar for her royal role... and, personally, I found the well-behaved, scene-stealing pups in the film to be worthy of an honor as well.
