Some pets can't get enough of leaf piles, but my scaredy pup doesn't like stepping on any surface that's not solid and definitely won't wade through masses of anything. However he will chase and chew anything that falls from trees including twigs and leaves – how about your furry friends?

iPhone Game For Cats: Love It or Leave It?

Most of my friends keep their iPhones far away from furry paws unless there's a practical reason to whip it out, but there's actually an app designed as a cat and human toy. Cat Game is a free iPhone application based on the classic "catch the laser dot" kitty diversion. The creators warn that not all felines will want to play, but the game function is fairly simple - you (or your kitty) are given 30 seconds to tap the laser dot moving on the screen. Does it sound like fun pastime for kitty or a careless use of technology?

Ways to Keep Halloween Fun, Not Frightful, For Furry Friends

The decorations are up and the candy's bought, but have your prepped your pets for this big day? Remember never force an animal into an outfit and keep him out of harm's way.

Who are you? Where am I? Costumes are scary and seeing Mom and Dad in masks or other bizarre ensembles can freak out your furry family (and kids). Similarly, all those spooky decorations, especially those that move and talk are equally frightful for observant pups.
No loose animals today. Don't leave pets in your yard on Halloween and bring indoor/outdoor cats inside. Disguises can cause people to behave differently and you don't want a pet to be teased, injured, scared (or worse!) by pranksters tonight.

Get two more tips when you read more.

Crowd control. If your pet will accompany your family trick-or-treating or to a parade, watch out for tiny pups under big feet. Make sure your dog is OK with strangers and noise before you set out and return home immediately if you see pooch is stressed. If you're throwing a pet-friendly bash, keep candy and chocolate away and follow these tips.
Minimal stress spots only. I know North freaks out at the doorbell and, if I lived in an area with trick-o-treaters, I would drop him off at a pet hotel for the night. If you think a pooch will get panicked by the constant buzzer, or frustrated that he can't go out, either sequester him in another part of the house away from candy or place a sign on the doorbell asking for knocks only, please.

A Piece O'Pumpkin Advice For Jack-O'-Lantern Snacks

Since pumpkin is high on my list of healthy foods for a chubby or rumbly puppy tummy no matter the season, I feel the need to address those carved creations, if that's your kind of thing.

Not only can an open flame pose a danger, the unlit pumpkin is not pet-safe! While the fresh stuff is fine for furry friends, don't leave the jack-o'-lantern within paws' reach - after being carved and exposed to air, the vegetable grows bacteria and mold, which is very dangerous to doggies. Save the gourds for the garbage come Nov. 1 and pick up some canned pumpkin instead!

Homemade Howl-oween: A Grape Costume Idea!

What a grape, err I mean great, costume idea! It may not be a pet-safe snack, but it's a neat ensemble nonetheless.
Turn your own dog into Grapes on a Vine . . . on a dime! OK, more than $.10 but this costume can easily be had, especially if your pup already has a green coat or sweatshirt.

To create, simply blow up purple balloons (or choose red or green balloons for your favorite flavor) and hot glue them to the coat. Add on some leaves cut from a garland and you've got a fine costume on your hands - just be sure to place the balloons where your pup can't accidentally pop them and put it out of reach when the photo opp's done.

Totes Too Cute to Leave at Home

Straight from the makers of those chic cushions and neat Blik wall decals, the people over at Pillow Pillow Pillow let you take your breed love on the road with organic cotton totes. After all, you'd look pretty ridiculous carrying around a pillow. Water-based inks make up the simple silhouettes (all based on actual animals). Naturally, Otis the Boston Terrier is my favorite, but peep the other cute designs below. Happy shopping!

Oh, Go Put a Sock in It

Just like that old saying goes, you should "put a sock in it" . . . but I'm not talking about your mouth. Seems those stockings can find another stuffing place - pet toys.

Community member drea nicole offered up this crafty solution for lil ol' socks:

I make toys from left over fabric and stuff it with clean, old socks. Now I don't have to worry about Viva destroying an expensive toy or swallowing stuffing. My stitches tend to last longer, too.

Even if you're not into creating your own toys, sock pieces would make a handy replacement to ripped-out stuffing. Still squishy but not leaving icky white bits all over your home, considering nestling a squeaker inside this footwear before performing that stuffy surgery next time.
