Can they? Yes. Should they?

It's important to protect yourself and your pets from threats while on walks. You never know what you'll encounter strolling through an area with off-leash dogs or wild animals, and it's important to think about protection.
The idea of pepper spray was recommended in the comments of a past dealing with aggressive dogs post, and in Dean Koontz's A Big Little Life: A Memoir of a Joyful Dog, he mentions the same thing.

Please tell me I'm not the only one with a pet that wants to eat everything including the kitchen sink?! While I'm careful to keep my purse out of his reach ('cause of gum), what if he sniffs his nosy nose into my wallet and comes up with a penny?
If you think this poses no extra risk than other inedible objects, you'd be wrong!

Do you recognize this furry face? It's Cha-Cha-Cha, Charmin. (Sorry, I'm feeling punchy.) The Sealyham Terrier won the 2007 AKC/Eukanuba National Championship, captured the terrier group title for the 2008 Westminster Dog Show and now just won Crufts Best in Show! After last August's documentary claiming the Crufts Kennel Club allowed (or, at the very least, did not protect against) damaging breeding practices, both the RSPCA and major sponsor Pedigree pulled out of partnerships with this event, and the BBC television refused to air the show.

All I can say is wow: In a lawsuit filed Thursday in Brooklyn, former flight attendant Lisa Wilson claims she was attacked by a German Shepherd belonging to Jennifer Lopez on a plane trip nearly two years ago! This former flight attendant is seeking $5 million in damages and lost wages as a result of this attack as the back injuries (and surgery) prevented her from working anymore.
The shocking event allegedly happened on July 3, 2006 on a private Gulfstream IV jet leaving from Republic Airport in Farmingdale, LI when private airline company, NetJets, assigned Wilson to this flight headed to California's Burbank Airport.

We had one crazy storm here in San Francisco last Friday – between the wind and the rain, it was certainly enough to keep my pup inside and not on his normal excursions at Golden Gate Park. While I was at the office, North spent the afternoon in his crate. When originally choosing a space for North's crate, I stuck with standard recommendations that it be in a "people area" (so he doesn't feel banished or punished) while also keeping it at a distance from drafts and heat sources.

If your pup is unlucky enough to have bites from these yucky blood suckers, make a switch to an eco-tastic shampoo to offer relief during the Summer months. If you're not up to making your own herbal flea powder, here's a couple ingredients to look for on the label of store brands (recommended by you in the comments!):
- Aloe: One of the more obvious calming ingredients, aloe can be found in everything from gels to sprays. Pure Aloe Vera can sooth and cool your dog's itchy bites (and yours, too!) plus it won't hurt your pet if he licks it off.

It's not just the hairless pups getting sunburned! All dogs and outdoor cats are at risk with those with light skin, light-colored or recently shaved fur, or pink noses having a slightly higher chance of this problem. Sunburn can cause ulcerations, which makes pets more susceptible to yucky infections, and as sun damage occurs, skin cells die and can release proteins that inappropriately trigger the immune system.

Well, this week totally tested the ingenuity of the three remaining contestants on Groomer Has It. Each had to create their own mobile grooming station in a dog park and the one who attracted the most clients, and made the most money, would be the quick-sniff challenge winner. Now Jorge's approach of only asking for donations caused him to come out on the bottom – although several people gave him $20 for his services, another gave him just $2 in change.
