What's black and white and op art all over? Why, this pet collection from Coach. Although it's making me a bit dizzy as I stare, I love the optical illusion-esque effect of the white Cs on the dark background.

While the tote's on the pricier side, $68 each for collar and leash isn't totally unreasonable. The collar comes in four sizes, but the carrier, leash, and coat are one size fits all (tiny) pets. I can see this pattern in particular popping on a pearly Maltese or a leggy Italian Greyhound - the raincoat is fabric lined with a soft leather trim for lil pups staying dry . . . and fabulous. Do Tell: What Words Make You Think of Puppies and Kittens?

Although I caught the Olympics closing ceremony on Sunday, other than that I didn't watch much of the events on TV. The one sport I did see was the balance beam finals. You may be wondering what this has to do with PetSugar (other than the fact that both Nastia and Shawn are doggie owners), but just bear with me here.
While I was watching this competition, I was struck by how differently the two girls performed and behaved at the event.

The lithe Nastia was very elegant while performing, and seemed composed and reserved on the sidelines. Shawn the dynamo, however, just looked so friendly and was bouncing around and happily chatting with her coach as the scores were tallied. So here I went with my 24/7 animal-crazed mind, and realized there were some words that I unconsciously associated with cats, and others that made me think of puppies.

Now, by no means am I intending to insult either girl (or the sport of gymnastics), but those words I used when describing Nastia totally reminded me of all the stereotypes of a cat, while those for Shawn made me think of a cute, lil puppy - am I totally off-base here? Are there any adjectives that you associate with puppies, and others that you would reserve for cats? Feel free to say I'm silly in your comments below!

Groomer Has It Recap: "The Fashion Show"

Well, with nine groomers left, the competition is getting ruff (groan). Last week's winner, Will, got to split the remaining contestants into three groups competing for this fashion-show challenge. Even though he used a seemingly logical yet predictable strategy of putting three guys in a group together (assuming they'd know nothing about fashion) boy, did that backfire in his face! Each team designed a set of three looks for the three classes of poodles – toy, miniature, and standard – and created concepts with fabric, ribbons, and rhinestones properly sewn up by professionals. With Melissa Rivers standing in as the guest judge, this red-carpet commentator was not shy voicing her opinions, overall voting for "Team Spirit": Jasper, Artist, and Jorge. I agree they had the most cohesive theme with a sporty set of looks for a coach, player, and cheerleader – what did you think?

Pug Wants Yummy, Yummy Yummies!

The Leading Lady of I Am Legend

The (other) star of I Am Legend was not discovered on the streets of NYC or at a Hollywood casting call – Abbey, the 3-year-old German Shepherd, who appears in this new film alongside Will Smith, was hand picked (and rescued) from a California kennel. Experienced trainer, Steve Berens, selected and offered three weeks of intensive coaching to the pooch before introducing her to the rest of the cast. While there may have been some "creative differences" at the start (she barked at Will when he first walked up), after a short while, the two became friends and traveled to New York together to shoot this film. She stepped up to the role of co-star with style and grace, performing beautifully throughout the shooting. The only thing she wouldn't agree to do was play fetch – a backup pooch had to be called in to do the deed for that scene. I guess that would be too dog-like for her! After the film wrapped, Will offered a touching description of leaving his co-star:

It was painful. She is way on another plane of connecting to what your energy is, what your feelings are, and protective. It’s beautiful.

I can't wait to check her big screen debut - the film opens today nationwide.
