In the Spotlight: Bob and Ned's Big Adventure (With Naomi)

Naomi Watts has a baby on board in addition to Bags on Board when taking her two cute pups for a jaunt in Soho over the weekend. Ned (the Cocker Spaniel) and Bob (the Yorkie) look pretty chill so the one-handed technique seems to be working well for this walkie.

Now, I notice both dogs have matching leashes – if you've got more than one pooch, do you buy unique leads for each furry friend or do you buy the same one in multiples? Share in the comments below after seeing a couple more pictures when you read more.

Marley Bob: Pet of the Week

I may be going out on a limb here but I'm betting there were some snacks involved in this posing (and costuming) process. Marley looks absolutely smashing in his holiday bandana . . . and it comes as no surprise that his profile shows he likes all treats, all the time. Sfmastiffmom tells us it's her best attempt at getting the pup dressed up for their Christmas card – and this was the only accessory that lived up to his high style standards. This super sweet pup is a 9-month-old Boxer/hound mix that adopted his parents when he was just 10 weeks old at a local rescue adoption day. Good sport, maybe if she puts down that camera, you can finally get that treat!

Celebs Love Playboy And Puppies

An interesting assortment of celebrities headed to the Playboy mansion this weekend for the Much Love Animal Rescue Benefit. Hef himself was nowhere to be seen, but Haylie & Hilary Duff were there keeping up their philanthropic sides. Unfortunately it looks like Hilary left her two dogs at home, though that red carpet puppy is pretty adorable, too. Meanwhile, Bob Saget and Lori Loughlin had a mini Full House reunion - no sign of MK & Ashley, boo. We have to say though that the puppies stole the show and won our hearts - any celebrity looks good cuddling up to one of those cute doggies.

The Scoop: Military Hospital Opens For Combat-Wounded Pups

There are over 2,500 dogs working with military units around the world . . . but what happens when a dog gets hurt on the job? Up until recently, pooches severely injured in the field were flown for treatment to a cramped building that opened 40 years ago during the Vietnam War! No longer. A $15 million veterinary hospital opened Tuesday (in its place) at Texas's Lackland Air Force Base, which also houses the working dogs' training facilities.

Housing all the best technology, features include everything from canine CT scanning equipment to rehab like this underwater treadmill. Lackland currently trains 750 dogs – the pups usually enter between one-and-a-half and three years of age and most work until about 10.

With demand outstripping the number of dogs available, hospital and veterinary workers were trying to keep them healthy and working as long as possible, said Army Col. Bob Vogelsang, hospital director. Then, they're adopted out and stationed at "Fort Living Room."

The Bark's Top Four Dog-Friendly Workplaces

I'm a huge fan of The Bark magazine, not only because it's based here on the West Coast, but they consistently report great info and news for dogs and their owners. In this month's issue – just in time for Take Your Dog to Work Day coming up on June 20 – Bark dug into the nation's most pet-friendly workplaces and came up with their top four faves. Not only does this story have me wanting to make a little space for North by my desk here at Sugar HQ, but it also has me saying "Awww!" since you know that both owners and pets have a blast at work every day!

Amazon: Anywhere from 24 to 36 dogs come to work daily at the Seattle, WA, headquarters. Owners must first register their pups and agree to rules like keeping vaccines up to date and staying on a leash - unless they're in their office, of course.
Healthwise: This Boise, ID, company that employs around 200 people have welcomed pets in the office since day one in 1975. Doggies must adhere to a "three-strikes" rule, ensuring that problem pooches get adequate warning before being booted. But with the miles of hiking trails that surround the complex, the pups seem to be too content (or just too tired) to cause trouble.

Replacements, LTD: You would think that a 12,000-square-foot warehouse containing tons of china, crystal, and collectibles would be no place for dogs, but Replacements' founder, Bob Page, begs to differ. With people coming into the showroom just to visit the dogs, it must be good for business! Bob makes sure that his employees' pets' behavior remains their responsibility by recommending training for naughty doggies, then allowing them back to the office in three months. Kind of like dog probation, right?
Ben & Jerry's: The ice cream giant's headquarters in South Burlington, VT knows their 15 office dogs by name, and often introduces them to touring guests right alongside the employees. The dog-friendly environment is so therapeutic, that one Ben & Jerry's employee who was afraid of dogs before starting, has since become a dog lover and adopted two golden retrievers of her own!

Worst. Cat. Names. Ever.

I came across a compiled list of "real" cat names that pretty much take the cake for worst ever. I got a chuckle reading through, just cause some of them are just that bad. I can't say that I was the best pet namer as a youngster, but at least I didn't name our family cat "Scaredy." That's right, as in Scaredy-Cat.

Although I don't necessarily agree with the order (I think Buzlingtonian Gingerbits should've at least made the top five), and some of them seem a wee bit fake (c'mon - Susie Sex Change, for real?), take a look at the top ten worst cat names anyway and tell me if you've heard of any real life kitty names that should have made the list!

The Scoop: Pampered Pets at an All Time High

For those of you who answer "Spoiled Sweet" on all those Spoiled Sweet or Rotten polls, I guess you weren't kidding! In a story released yesterday, the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association estimates that American pet owners spent over $41 billion dollars last year on their furry pals.

APPMA President Bob Vetere credits trends in design and including pets part of your family to the rise in spending.

"High end products in general are on the rise, as is gift giving and new product introductions and innovation. The pet industry continues to grow at a record pace and the future is no exception. Pet owners and the companies providing pet products and services show no sign of letting up."

High end pet accessories, carriers, designer clothes, and organic food topped the spending list, but big money was also spent on pet health insurance, pet spas and hotels, as well as doggie day care.

What's more is Americans are expected to spend even more this year – an estimated $48 million – which is more than double what we spent in 1996! I suppose since over 71 million American homes are with pet, it really evens out, right? Or maybe I'm just feeling guilty over spending a little too much on North's food bowls. Either way, our pets are worth it. Wouldn't you agree?

The Scoop: Come Quick . . . The Bird Is Ringing!

Now sometimes I jump when my own phone rings, but imagine jumping when you hear your phone ring, only to realize that it never rang at all! This bird, Billy, is the culprit behind that very scenario with his owner, Stuart McNae, both seen here. The Blue-fronted Amazon Parrot is able to perfectly learn and mimic ringtones . . . so perfectly, in fact, that his owner has had to change the mobile phone's sound five times already! To make matters worse, Billy also likes to wait until Stuart leaves the room to copy the sound, and even imitates laughter when he dashes back to answer. The bird has already learned the Nokia theme, Lou Bega’s Mambo Number 5, the BBC Match of the Day tune, Soul Limbo by Booker T and the MGs and Bob Marley’s No Woman No Cry . . . I can't think of trickier tones to test such a qualified creature with, can you?
