Trailblazers: First-Time Westminster Best in Show Winners

Last year's Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show winner Hickory was the first of his breed, the Scottish deerhound, to win the coveted best in show prize. He's among quite a number of first-timers in the show's 105-year history who will (hopefully!) pave the way for more of their kind. We think that every breed deserves a prize for being cute and unique and we envy the group of judges who ultimately must select the one winner! Who do you think will be top dog in next week's 2012 Westminster?

As dog lovers but not necessarily dog experts, we tend to root for breeds we like, canines we've seen, or just those pups that are looking extra cute. It's like cheering for the home ~~team~~ pup at your house.

For me, it was all about this Frenchie, since he's a Non-Sporting type and a smooshy like North. Who did you really want to win?

History was once again made at MSG! Not only was this Scottish Terrier capturing her 112th career Best in Show last night, but she also became the first Triple Crown winner of dog shows after nabbing the number one spot at the National Dog Show, the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship, and now Westminster.

Owned by Amelia Musser of Mackinac Island, MI, she redeemed two previous green carpet flubs - the noisy crowd at the Garden spooked her in 2008 and the famous potty break in 2009 - and now Roundtown Mercedes of Maryscot (aka Sadie) is the 2010 champ!

After all that hype, it was the favored Scottish Terrier, capturing her 112th Best in Show win during an insanely successful competing career! The Scottie was once again shown by Gabriel Rangel who, upon being congratulated, said: "No, it's all about the dog!" So true, so true, and today Sadie was good to you!

As dog lovers but not necessarily dog experts, we tend to root for breeds we like, dogs we've seen, or just those pups that are looking extra cute. Many times, I can be disappointed when a dog I think is super-adorable doesn't win – I'm not exactly up on each breed's ideal, after all. Let Them Eat Steak . . . And by "Them" I Mean Stump

Stump would like the steak please. Oops, you lost a bit there, buddy. That's right in addition to a catapult to popularity for the country's reigning Best In Show, Stump got his choice of a juicy steak or tender chicken breast for a special snack. BTW, that's not just any bit of meat either – it was served up at Charlie Palmer's Metrazur restaurant at Grand Central Terminal as part of a charity brunch yesterday.

As part of the second annual event, he also got a bag with extraordinary swag . . . and more photos. Can you blame them 'cause what a little ham he's turning out to be. I can't leave you hangin' so see photos of the yums when you read more.

Super-Cute Gallery: It's All About Stump Now!

Last night this pup made all kinds of history being the first Sussex Spaniel and the oldest dog ever to win Westminster. I think Stump's rather stumptastic and my favorite thing about this pup is hands down (paws up) this trick. Doesn't he look like he's pretending to be a stump posing like that?!

As cute as the pup was in the show ring at MSG, his life hasn't been easy. Although he won the Sporting group when he last competed in 2004, he got a mysterious illness shortly thereafter – "his whole body completely quit" – and spent 19 days in a Texas A&M hospital before being miraculously cured. Since then he's just been hanging out and doing whatever he wants to do . . . and, last night, he wanted to win.

Stumpy! I mean, Stump, is the Best in Show at the 133rd Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show! The oldest winner in the history of Westminster at 10 years old, this Sussex Spaniel last won his group in 2004!
