Adam Loves a Good Matzo (or Babu)!

Check out that big doggie belly as Adam Sandler gets in on Hollywood's tote a pet trend! Babu looks a tad hefty and I'm thinking this was just a quick pick 'em up on the way to the movie set for Bedtime Stories in LA yesterday. If you're loving this pup as much as I am, all his pets (past and present) have a fansite full of cute, slobbery videos of them being, well, cute and slobbery. The Scoop: Walt Disney World to Open Pet Resort in 2009

It's such a bummer when you consider a four legged animal a member of your family, but yet there are some places that still don't allow them to roam around with you. Disneyland and Disney World are two of the "happiest places on earth" but unfortunately, the happiness doesn't apply to your furry friends. At least the happiness inside the park anyway! Although I'm not sure how appropriate it would be to take a pet on a ride, it does make me feel slightly guilty about leaving my poor pup in one of the kennels while I'm slurping up shaved ice!

However, if you're planning a trip to Disney World in mid 2009, things just got a little easier on your heart. Your pampered pooches still won't be lucky enough to join you in the park, but now they'll have a resort they can call their own! Word is, Disney World is building a pet resort that will boast such amenities as hiking trails, doggie day camp, cat lounges, grooming services, ice cream socials, and bedtime stories for your pets to enjoy while you're frolicking with Mickey and Minnie. I'm excited to hear more news about this since I'm definitely wanting to head back over to Florida after my awesome adventures at Aquatica, so it would be cool to check this out as well. Plus, it will give me a good excuse to go see Disney's Animal Kingdom!

Matzo's Day at the Beach

This isn't the first time we've seen lil Matzo on the set of Bedtime Stories . . . am I the only one hoping she'll have a cameo in this flick?! Adam seems to be giving the smushy a mini swimming lesson at this Santa Monica beach while on a break. Good thing he stays close because she's clearly just learning. If you're curious how to introduce a pup to the water (and to see more pictures of Matzo and Adam), read more.

First off, allow your pup to get close to the water at her own pace – never force a pet in! Many dogs may not willingly walk in, but if you start walking into the shallow end, they'll likely follow right along.
Pay extra attention to the size of the waves – measure the height of your dog against your leg. If the waves are hitting that part of your leg, keep the novice swimmers closer to shore.
When your dog finally gets into the shallow water and splashes around, praise her enthusiastically in a "happy puppy voice" – this lets her know it's safe and a good idea to play!
For those pups that like to fetch on dry land, try tossing a ball into shallow water to see if she'll fetch it. This can be all the incentive a pup needs – just in case, attach a rope so you don't lose the toy altogether!

Some pups never will want to swim (or be able to), and may need to be rescued – if your pup seems to freeze or panic (like lil Matzo), go rescue her!

Pet of the Week: Toby

If you couldn't guess from his model-pose photo – Toby the cat has a goal to be the center of attention. To accomplish this, he's practically developed a one-man show to make that a reality.

Act One: Snacks. See whole potato chip. Steal potato chip with tiny kitty mouth. Drop potato chip in safe spot. Pounce on whole potato chip to make many tiny potato chip pieces. Eat and repeat.
Act Two: Mischief. See mom, Supergrover, with the camera. Distract by knocking something over. Then act cute and innocent so your picture is snapped instead. Repeat. . . also involving mom, minus the camera and adding newspapers.
Act Three: Time for Bed. Announce bedtime with pacing and frantic meowing. Continue until mom lays down. Jump on bed and find comfortable spot as close to head as possible. Then push nose against face or place paws on top of face. Comfy for you, not so for mom.

End scene. Congratulations, Toby! I'd give you a standing ovation.
