Spring Blooms with Uno!

Even after winning Westminster, a celebripup's role is never done! Everyone's favorite baying Beagle made talk-show circuit rounds, "rang" the opening bell at the Nasdaq stock exchange, and met tons of his admirers. Although the pooch has retired from the dog show world, he certainly keeps busy booking enough appearances to practically need his own agent! Among those canine close-ups was a stop at the Macy's Flower Show in The Cellar of Macy's Herald Square on Sunday. Clearly he's in great demand getting everyone from the President (who wants him to come to the Oval Office) to the St. Louis Cardinals (who want him to run out the first ball) to even Oprah clamoring for a visit – I have a feeling Uno mania isn't gonna stop any time soon so check out some more photos of this pup's fun weekend when you read more.

Andy Rooney's Take on Westminster

Andy Rooney is usually too grumpy for my taste, but I got a kick out of his report on the 132nd Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, which aired as part of last night's 60 Minutes. Apparently Rooney attends the event every year and claims he's "never met a bad dog at the show," even though he can't always identify the breeds. I couldn't help but giggle at the visual of him checking out the cute doggies. Or maybe it was just the juxtaposition of a grumpy old man next to pretty pups. Either way, watch the video for a sneak peek at some of the dogs that didn't make it into the winning rounds. What do you think of dog show handlers?

Viewers' Choice: Westminster Redo?

As dog lovers but not necessarily dog experts, we tend to root for breeds we like, dogs we've seen, or just those pups that are looking extra cute. Many times, I can be disappointed when a dog I think is super-adorable doesn't win – I'm not exactly up on each breed's ideal, after all. Uno definitely seemed to be the crowd's fave with the screaming, stomping, and chanting. Check out the clip of the final seven – who did you really want to win?

It sure is hard being a star! After making the morning talk show rounds, anyone who missed this cutie-pie winner last night will surely remember his name for time to come. The ever-spunky Uno got a standing ovation (!) at the Garden . . . and responded by jumping up and baying right back! I only wish I could have found a picture of the little (big) Beagle attempting to chew on the microphones shoved in the face of his posse. Awww! Can't get enough? 2008 Westminster Winner: Best in Show!

It's the moment I've been waiting for! The results are in for all seven groups. I've listed the competing pups and the last time their breed took Best in Show at Westminster:

Hooray! Look at Uno, the Best in Show at the 132nd Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show! Of all the groups, the hounds have suffered the longest drought in the final ring – it's been 25 years since a member has taken Best in Show when an Afghan Hound won in 1983! But, enough with the history, I'm so crazy for this pup that I'm working on a gallery of cute piccys of him in the ring receiving his title – this won't be the last you see of Uno being número uno!

2008 Westminster Winners: Working Group

Powerful and intelligent, the Working group contains many of the biggest – and strongest – breeds around. From pulling sleds to serving in the military, these working pups wear many hats. Also in this group is the fourth newly-accepted breed showing for the first time at the 132nd dog show – the Tibetan Mastiff. Even though he got big cheers from the crowd, and was pulled out for the short list, he sadly didn't make it to the final four. But, hey, it was his first year competing at Westminster so I'm thinking he's definitely a breed to watch! See who won the group when you read more.

Macey the Akita will represent the Working group in the Best in Show competition!

2008 Westminster Winners: Toy Group

Even though the pooches of the Toy group were bred to be companions for people, many times they resemble their larger cousins (like the Toy and Standard Poodles) and have a lot of energy in those little packages! Of the pups competing this year, those were our top four. Any predictions on who captured the title? Think now and see the winner of the Toy Group when you read more.

Vikki took first here, too! The lass who also won the Toy group at last year's Westminster seems to have a cult following of poodle fans, boasting her very own fansite with YouTube video. Now that's dedication.

2008 Westminster Winners: Sporting Group

We kicked off Day Two of Westminster with the Sporting group. Made up of dogs that point the game with their noses (i.e., the pointers), flush the game out (i.e., the spaniels), and then retrieve the game (i.e., the retrievers), these pooches are bred to be busy bees. With all those spaniels in the group, it's no surprise that a couple were finalists here. Ranging from the biggest, the Clumber Spaniel, to last year's Best in Show, James (the English Springer Spaniel), they're certainly popular and both the English Cocker and the A.S.C.O.B. made the Sporting group's short list last night. The A.S.C.O.B Cocker Spaniel stands for "any solid color other than black" and is represented by Dylan, seen at the bottom right. Neither he, nor the English Cocker (top left), captured the Sporting group title. It went to the grey ghost – Marge, the Weimaraner.

Gearing Up For Day Two of the WKC at MSG!

I'm still monitoring the pups as the Best in Breed competitions wrap up at the Garden! Remember how three of the four group finalists from the AKC/Eukanuba show made it to Best in Group yesterday? Well, all of the final three have made it again today. That means competing along with the others in the Sporting, Toy, and Working groups tonight will be Marge (the Weimaraner), Vikki (the Toy Poodle), and Macey (the Akita) respectively.

For those of you with other faves in these groups we've yet to see, don't worry about biased judges here. Even though other pups were big finishers in the past, the rules do not allow judges that have presided over a competition in the past six months to be present at Westminster. The pups are competing against the breed ideal, so it only makes sense that pooches who measured up before, will once again do so. However, that being said, I'm still pulling for one of those pups who captured the Hound group at the AKC show and here at Westminster last night - in case you missed my not-so-subtle hints, I'm really hoping that big Beagle, Uno, takes the big title tonight, too!
