While you're chowing down on a turkey with all the fixings this Thanksgiving, let your pet indulge in his own turkey dinner. Instead of throwing scraps of your food under the table, give him a proper treat. Check out these tasty turkey treats for cats and dogs, from a superhealthy wheat-grass-infused version to one that mimics a plate of turkey and cranberry sauce. Whichever one you choose, your pet will surely be thankful.
When it comes to dog-obedience training, many experts encourage a healthful dose of positive reinforcement, and there's no better way of getting your pup to sit and stay (and rewarding him for a job well done) than with treats! Because these yummies are intended to grab and hold your pooch's attention, they should be something delicious and out of the ordinary so he doesn't lose interest. And since he could probably do without the extra calories, it's best to keep training treats on the tiny side, since you'll probably go through a lot of them! While homemade liver treats are noteworthy nibbles, here are store-bought varieties that are tasty enough to get the job done.
Sure, you can count your pet's calories with the best of them and read the back of a food can like a registered nutritionist. But when it comes to those sad little treat-deprived eyes, you're a big softie. Even if your pet's on a diet, it's possible to reward him for a job well done — you'll just need to choose some healthier alternatives to the fat-laden biscuits and chews lurking in most pet treat packages. Poke around your fridge, and you'll find a slew of low-calorie options that will keep tails a-wagging and waists a-slimming. Though these treat selections are tailored to dogs, many will make Kitty lick her lips too, depending on what she likes to eat!
This week, we learned that for pets fighting the battle of the bulge, losing weight is more than just switching to diet food; understanding his target weight, his daily caloric needs, and the content of his food bag are vital to a healthy weight-loss plan. But even armed with this knowledge, I still succumb to a common doggie-diet wrecker: treats. We adore our pets like children, so it can be difficult to say no when they've accomplished great feats or just need a little love. The good news is that you don't have to forego treats altogether. Just tally up the calories behind your pup or kitty's reward and factor them into his daily caloric intake. Take our quiz to see if your pet has eaten his fill of these common treats!Take the Quiz
We're in the midst of the dog days of Summer, so tongues are lolling and your pet friends are undoubtedly feeling a little lethargic. Did you know that all you need to put some spring back in their step is an ice cube tray, a blender, and a few ingredients you already have around the kitchen? Stay away from sugar and salt, but feel free to get creative with these dog- and cat-safe recipes for chilly Summer treats.
- Liver treats: Blend chicken or beef liver with plain yogurt, then freeze in an ice cube tray.
- Banana-yogurt treats: Slice a banana, then place one slice into each cup in an ice cube tray. Pour dollops of yogurt over each banana slice, then freeze.
- Egg treats: Blend a few whole eggs (including shells) until smooth, then freeze in an ice cube tray.

Super Bowl Sunday is fast approaching, and while we're feasting on chili, buffalo wings, and dip, most pups will be eating the same . . . old . . . kibble. Whether he's a Patriot or a Giant, your poochy pal deserves a special snack, so consider picking up one of these treats inspired by the greatest day in football and — just maybe — he won't try to make off with your plate of potato skins.

Let me be honest: most moms don't have time to bake masterpieces. Sure, we cook with our families and bake cookies or a cake here and there, but we are a busy bunch and there aren't enough hours in the day to get decadent in the kitchen. When I do make treats I try and make them extra special so my kids thoroughly enjoy them. I can't explain it, but the perceived effort of putting sweets on sticks is always a crowd pleaser.
