About every six months now my dog gets skunked. And it's awful. I feel sorry for her, but she sure does stink. Each time I deal her skunkiness, I learn something new. Here are the three lessons I learned from each of her run-ins with Pepé Le Pew.
First lesson: No matter how late at night it is, do not let the dog in the house. We let our dog in at 3 a.m. post-skunking and kept her in the bathroom until daylight. Our house smelled like skunk for about a month. No lie. It was awful.
Second lesson: Use warm water, not cold. It helps get rid of the oils.
Third lesson: Use Baby shampoo. It's easier on your pooch especially around the eyes.
