Over the weekend, I took off to find my nearest Petco here in SF to check out their Halloween costume photo extravaganza taking place at stores nationwide. Furry friends of all kinds were invited to come dressed in costume, and have a fun piccy taken to remember the fun forever. The photographs were totally inexpensive ($5 plus tax), and came with a cute pumpkin frame to boot. I didn't want to chance taking North along, since he's usually the rowdy one in the bunch and, let's face it, a rowdy pooch while other dogs are trying to sit and stay for the camera doesn't really make sense! Check out some of the costumed pets I found at my local shop in this slideshow.
Grown Adults: Then and Now

I was reading geeksugar the other day and discovered the most amazing photo gallery evah: YoungMe — NowMe. The challenge: Peeps dig up old childhood pics, reenact them, and post themselves — then and now — on the site. It's amazing how all those diaper indiscretions, kitchen floor drum solos, and heinous sailor outfits that were so cute then are so not cute (but 10 times more brilliant and photoworthy) now. Who says adults can't be childish and get away with it? Check out the site and, if you're up to the challenge, submit your own photos and kid around with your grown self!
Can You Picture Your Dog on a Billboard in Times Square?
I sure can . . . and now's our chance! Dancing With the Stars winner, Drew Lachey and his German Shepherd, Luka, wanna get the word out that every canine can be a celebripup! They're inviting dog lovers across the country to join and show off their picture-perfect pooches by entering themr with Purina's "Picture Your Dog in Times Square". On June 19 all valid photos will be featured on the Reuters/NASDAQ Digital Tower Billboards in midtown Manhattan, giving each pup face time in one of America's most famous intersections.

Enter the Spay Day 2008 Photo Contest!
It's time to groom your pup or kitty and get out the camera! The Humane Society of the United States is hosting a special photo contest in honor of Spay Day. This year the special day falls on Feb. 26 and highlights spaying or neutering pets as an effective and humane solution to the problem of pet overpopulation.
How to you enter the contest? All you have to do is upload a digital photo of your pet and explain how your furry friend has made your life better. The Humane Society celebrity judges will award prizes to 36 entrants judged to have the best photos and write-ups.
The contest ends March 7. You can register your pets on the Humane Society website.
PetSugar's Halloween Photo Contest: The Results Are in...
A big thanks to everyone who shared pictures with PetSugar in my Halloween Costume Extravaganza group and via private message! We had a bunch of great costumed pets this year! So many, in fact, that I have actually chosen two winners!
- Congratulations to Gizmo the Lobster. I'm shocked that he's tolerated not one but several costumes... and poses so elegantly for the camera. He doesn't even look fazed at all!
- Congratulations to Super-Chicken Max, who is certainly one of the cutest, little super chickens that I've even seen! I especially like his unflinching gaze at the camera – he knows he's a superstar!
For these phenomenal pet photos, kitten25 (mom to Gizmo) and roxyb (mom to Max) can choose either a PetSugar tee for themselves... or for their furry friend! Stay tuned, there will be more chances to win before you can even say cock-a-doodle-doo!
