Good Reads: Tell Me Where It Hurts

Since I have a hard enough time watching shows like Animal Precinct or E-Vet Interns, I wasn't sure if I would be able to handle a book about a day in the life of an animal surgeon.

Since I have a hard enough time watching shows like Animal Precinct or E-Vet Interns, I wasn't sure if I would be able to handle a book about a day in the life of an animal surgeon. Thankfully, I gave it a shot (how could I pass up the cutie pie smooshy on the cover) and the book was well worth it!

In Tell Me Where It Hurts, Dr. Nick Trout takes us on a whirlwind journey through ups and downs during a typical day at the Angell Medical Center in Boston. Dr. Trout's humor and compassion for his four-legged patients, combined with interesting insights to modern veterinary medicine had me reading through the night – I couldn't put it down!

With plenty of horror stories about run-ins with vets that are less than desirable, it's comforting to read about someone who cares as much about our pets as we do. Plus, if you've ever wanted to know what goes on behind the scenes at a busy vet clinic, then this book is a must read. Check it out for yourself. You can get Tell Me Where It Hurts online now.

Do You Own Animal Coffee Table Books?

I could literally spend hours in the animal corner of my fave bookstore browsing over all the picture and instructional "how-to" books I can get my hands on.

I could literally spend hours in the animal corner of my fave bookstore browsing over all the picture and instructional "how-to" books I can get my hands on.

When I stopped in at Fideaux St. Helena, I probably should have started to pay rent since I was standing there so long leafing through the glossy pages of books like "Little Dogs," and "Winery Dogs." I have plenty of these types of books myself, I can't help but stop and gush every time I see the cute pups on the covers! Do you own any animal coffee table books?

On the Ball: Make Eco Dog's Eco-tastic Herbal Flea Powder

When I first welcomed North into my family, I knew that I wanted him to have the healthiest lifestyle possible.

When I first welcomed North into my family, I knew that I wanted him to have the healthiest lifestyle possible. Whenever I can, I make his food and treats from scratch, read all the labels on his shampoos, and try not to use too many chemicals around the house. So when I saw Eco Dog at my local bookstore over the weekend, I snatched it up pretty quickly! Packed with herbal remedies to common pet problems, recipes for a yummy looking meatloaf that I'm definitely going to treat him to, and some cool DIY projects for you to make your pet's environment as fresh and clean as you can, this book was well worth the $16 price tag, and I highly recommend it. Not surprisingly, I read through the whole thing in one sitting! The info is easy to understand and makes quite a lot of sense once you think about what is in those big name products like flea collars and kibble.

One of my fave DIY projects from the book is a natural flea repellent powder that's insanely easy to make and good to keep on hand. One of the points Eco Dog tries to make is if a bunch of chemicals is supposed to kill fleas, and warns against humans coming into contact with it, how healthy can it be for your pet!? I totally get it! To see the simple flea powder recipe, just read more

Little Dogs Book Perfect For Your Big Coffee Table

Not only is writing about animals one of my favorite pastimes, but so is reading about them!

Not only is writing about animals one of my favorite pastimes, but so is reading about them! Since I'm not always in the mood to dive into a "dog owner's manual" to satisfy my reading needs, I sometimes like picture books to gush over as well. One of my January must haves was a super fun read, and the book I found wandering around during my shop time seems like a great addition to my animal library. While at Z Gallerie over the weekend, I stumbled upon this cute book called Little Dogs ($20) with piccys of some pretty adorable pups donning the pages. Complemented by fun quotes from lil dog lovers from around the globe, you can have something to actually read, and not just graze over the cute photos. Although I'm a fan of all dogs big and small, if you are a pint-sized pooch fanatic, this book would look pretty handsome on your chic coffee table.
