PetSugar Q + A: What Are the Best Dog Toys For Chewers?

With dog toys costing so much, I know all too well the resulting frustration when seeing a brand-new item reduced to shreds and fuzz on the floor only minutes after handing it off to North — his quick killer skills make me hesitate when picking out any present!

With dog toys costing so much, I know all too well the resulting frustration when seeing a brand-new item reduced to shreds and fuzz on the floor only minutes after handing it off to North — his quick killer skills make me hesitate when picking out any present! While heavy-duty, rubber ones stand up to his little jaws, many times he walks right by these choices with nary a second glance. Since a member recently asked this question in our newest community group, PetSugar Q and A, I'm passing it along to all of you to comment below so tell me: What are the best dog toys for chewers?

I Need Your Help . . . Bentley Is Scared of My Husband

This question comes from gunrock in the Pet Peeves group.

This question comes from gunrock in the Pet Peeves group.

I had posted awhile ago about our dog being afraid of men. We have talked to the humane society and they told my husband what to do. Since he has started doing that, which is spending time with the dog, feeding him special treats, taking him for walks, Bentley seems more afraid then ever. He has even stopped eating when my husband is around (and won't eat if husband is near the dish or even in the kitchen). He is growling now, and won't even sit next to me if I am sitting next to my husband.

The humane society never said he was this afraid and my husband and I are getting tired of him peeing and pooping everywhere because he gets scared. My husband is starting to get frustrated since Bentley is showing not signs of improvement, in fact, he is getting worse. Any suggestions? Please help.

I Need Your Help . . . With Recommendations For Good Pet Food!

This request comes from Happsmjc in the Pet Peeves group.

Emmy, the cat, is currently eating Nutro Max for Kittens. This is what was recommended when we adopted her (what she had been eating). She always ate fine, is growing and happy, but recently has thrown up three or so times. After reading a page of horror stories, I'm thinking it is because of the food. I'm so sad I have been giving this to her and this was recommended.

Patter, the dog, is currently eating Beneful. I am not sure how we chose this for him. He was on Nutro when Bexley lived here, but switched when Bexley switched to a very expensive brand (now I am thinking because the Nutro was making him sick). After researching cat foods, I researched the Beneful.

I Need Your Help . . . My Dog Is Scared of Men

This post comes from member lilegwene in the Pet Peeves group: My husband and I adopted a dog from an animal shelter a little over two weeks ago.

This post comes from member lilegwene in the Pet Peeves group:

My husband and I adopted a dog from an animal shelter a little over two weeks ago. She's an abandoned, Australian shepherd mix, about six years old, and as sweet as can be. We've named her "Jaida" (pronounced Jay-ida and means "good girl" in Arabic). She is my little shadow and loves to cuddle with me and to play in the snow.

Unfortunately, she is very afraid of men including our vet and my husband. I thought it was something she would get over, and she has to an extent with my husband — she will take food from him now which she would not do for the first week we had her. She still does not come to him when he calls, puts her tail between her legs, looks away from him when he pets her, and darts away from him to hide under my desk especially when he first comes downstairs in the morning or comes home from work.

I Need Your Help . . . Dog Has Red Pads!

This post comes to us from the Pet Peeves group from member beth56374.

My dog has been sleeping outside for sometime now, and during the day until early afternoon. I cleaned out his kennel recently and made a horrible mistake . . . I did not put enough hay on the bottom. When we went to get him the next day, there were holes and he had some ice inside it. I feel horrible because now his pads (especially his back right foot, seen here) are all red. He has been licking it a little but also limps on it. He is now sleeping inside but not sure what else I should do for this? Any thoughts?

I Need Your Help . . . Cat Constantly Meows!

My pet peeve is with our cat.  Ever since we moved from a small one bedroom apartment to a house, she will go into our basement and sit down there and meow constantly. It's almost like she forgot where she went. We've lived in the house for four months now, and this has been going on since we moved in. She'll just sit down in the basement and meow, then finally come running up the stairs. When you go to see what she's doing, she's just sitting in the middle of the floor staring up at you. It's kind of a cute serenade, but it's getting annoying. Please help us figure out why she is doing this!

I Need Your Help . . . Multiple Pit Bull Household?

Ok, so in a few months I'm going to be moving with my boyfriend to our own apartment (right now, we both live at home). I know right off the bat there is this one Pit Bull at a rescue that I am planning to try to adopt (2 or 3-year-old fixed male), and last month I saw another dog in the same rescue that was about 2 or 3 years old, a fixed female I am seriously considering getting as well.

I Need Your Help With . . . Dog Destruction!

This post comes to us from our Community Member Halloween31.

This post comes to us from our Community Member Halloween31.

It seems that Luca is getting a kick out of destroying everything in sight whenever he is kind of alone. Of course he is never alone, but Lance has proven not be such a whirlwind of trouble. Every time I leave my house and come back I always wonder what now he will have found to rip up. Today it was the water bottles I haven't put in the fridge yet and kibble. At least he didn't eat the food he just rips the packages open and is very happy with the result. He is also very happy when I get home. Now Lance is a completely different story. You leave and he sets himself up on his chair and just stays there. He doesn't wander around or wants to destroy he just sleeps. Now I have tried everything I could think of. Left loads of toys and tried to keep him busy with a kong and so on, but nothing seems to help. Even so I think it's getting worse. He has even found my bag and decided that whatever was in there it had to be taken out. I could really do with some help from you guys and tips to see what I can do to stop this.

Thanks!

I Need Your Help . . . Must Two Dogs Equal Two Leashes?

Whether it's double trouble or two times the fun, two pups definitely provide twice the tangles when being walked together.

Whether it's double trouble or two times the fun, two pups definitely provide twice the tangles when being walked together. I'm a fan of tandem leashes (like this one) in theory, but I've never had to hook North up with another furry friend.

Community Member Kelli Ann asks:

This is our second dog and we want to try out a dual leash. The pups are about 25 lbs each and are both good on a leash. Any insight/tips/recommendations would be much appreciated because two separate leashes can be a little tricky!

All of you multiple pet owners or generous dog walkers share any advice to not get your dogs' signals, and your leashes, crossed. (And, as always, feel free to private message me or post questions in our Pet Peeves group and we'll help you out ASAP.)
