Love It or Hate It? Aquarium Sink

In the world of aquarium design, there's a lot of tacky out there.

In the world of aquarium design, there's a lot of tacky out there. But thanks to California Home + Design, I've discovered that designers are rethinking the jumbo bachelor pad tank in favor of some more innovative designs. One of the most unusual is the Aquarium Sink ($4,500) from Opulent Items, which has a glass top that can be removed to rearrange your fish tank decor and two openings for feeding. There's also a large sink light in the back, and a powerhead for filtration, oxygenation, and water circulation. It would definitely liven up your tooth-brushing routine. What do you think of the sink?

Cool Idea: Duplex Digs For Birds and Fish

Birds and fish have really drawn the short end of the stick when it comes to dwelling design.

Birds and fish have really drawn the short end of the stick when it comes to dwelling design. So I was delighted to come across Duplex, a bird cage topped with a fish tank. The design of the aquarium was molded convexly to create a space where the bird flies and the fish swims at the same height, creating a visual encounter between the two. Beyond that, this air and waterworld fusion is absolutely stunning with its wooden cage bars and tall, bulbous shape. I never liked cleaning the algae out of fish bowls, but for the Duplex, I'd do anything.

Check Out the View on This Sink!

Not only can you bathe with fish and travel to sleep with fish, but you can also keep your hands clean while looking at fish!

Not only can you bathe with fish and travel to sleep with fish, but you can also keep your hands clean while looking at fish! This Italian made Moody Aquarium Sink is perfect for those aquatically obsessed folks who believe you can never have too many aquariums, or those who have the spare $4,700 to toss in for a truly unique wash basin!

But if you don't want to subject your fish to sink confinement – thankfully, there are proper filtration and pumps included – you can choose to fill the sink with sand to create your very own Zen garden. Either way, I think it would look pretty snazzy in a bathroom, but I'm a little worried about the upkeep. How the heck do you clean this thing!?

Hanging Aquarium: Cooler as Terrarium?

So, at first glance, this Hanging Aquarium ($50) looks pretty cool.

So, at first glance, this Hanging Aquarium ($50) looks pretty cool. Meant for your Beta fish (and as a desk lamp), the compact hanging tank is illuminated by a small LED light on top, and comes in two finishes to satisfy your modern or antique tastes.

It seems that this would be another great solution to solve some of your space issues if you long for a nice aquatic touch in your pad, but I can't imagine putting fishies in it! I think it'd be better used as an awesome terrarium. What do you guys think – cool or totally uncool?

Spring Cleaning: Fish Tank

Undoubtedly, there has been a few times where you have let your fish tank go a little longer than normal between cleanings.

Undoubtedly, there has been a few times where you have let your fish tank go a little longer than normal between cleanings. A good thorough cleaning should happen at least once a month, where you replace at least ten percent of the water, clean off decorative accents, and vacuum or siphon the rocks. Since the primary cause of nitrate and algae in fish tanks is due to natural debris accumulating in the tank, cleaning the rocks and decorations is key to keep your tank (and fish) healthy.

If you have a seriously dirty tank, you may need to attack in sections over a few weeks to prevent new tank syndrome and disrupting your tank's pH balance, by cleaning a portion of the rocks and decorations at a time. Once you're all caught up, though, how do you maintain a good, clean tank? For some healthy tank tips, just read more

Swim With the Fishies...In Your Bathtub?

You know how I have been talking about how having a big and bulky fish tank in my apartment would not be the best idea?

You know how I have been talking about how having a big and bulky fish tank in my apartment would not be the best idea? Well, this one would eliminate that issue . . . sort of.

The Moody Acquario that I caught on Born Rich has you soaking right alongside your aquatic pals. The tempered glass and wood tank from Italian based company Lavabo, is built into your tub for ultimate relaxation. 'Cause really, what's more relaxing than watching your fish swim around their tank? Taking a nice hot bath, that's what. Unfortunately, this kind of luxury doesn't come cheap. The Moody Acquario weighs in at a whopping $15,000 big ones! But, honestly, it's kind of weird, right? Even though we've seen some interesting tanks here, this one has to take the cake. What do you think – would you rock the Acquario in your bathroom?

Getting "Framed" Isn't Always a Bad Thing... When You're a Fish

As much as I gushed over the Silverfish aquarium, it's pretty bulky, so I know it would never fit in my apartment.

As much as I gushed over the Silverfish aquarium, it's pretty bulky, so I know it would never fit in my apartment. The AquaVista 500 ($330), on the other hand, is right up my alley. Coming in at just under two feet wide and two feet tall, this six gallon tank is perfect for your tropical fish to hang out in . . . literally. Just remember to follow the fish-to-inch ratio! Plus, at only four inches deep, it won't stick out like a sore thumb, which means less chance of someone walking by and getting a smack on the head! To see why I like it, just read more

Relax Already: Get a Fish Tank

I love all animals, and when I was in college, my tiny apartment would only allow fish.

I love all animals, and when I was in college, my tiny apartment would only allow fish. So, I took what I could get, and I've had a fish tank ever since.

Originally, I got fish for some company, but I realized that having them around is really relaxing. I love to hear the gentle bubbling of the filter and watch the graceful movements of the fish's shimmering fins. It has a wonderful calming effect on my mood.
