Extreme Beds: Would You Do it?

We're happy to present a post from Stylelist Home!

We're happy to present a post from Stylelist Home!

In this line of business, you get to know beds pretty well. From beautiful daybeds to fun lofted beds -- we've seen them all. But some beds are so extreme, so over-the-top, it's hard to believe they're for sleeping. We're talking beds that can float or even rock (literally...and figuratively). Here are ten of our favorites.

Feel Seating System

This bed definitely has a lot of imagination. It's made of 120 soft, foam balls that can transform into different sleeping positions depending on your mood. For more information, visit Animi Causa Boutique.

The Paperpedic Bed

This is how you make your bedroom more eco-friendly. The Paperpedic Bed is constructed entirely of cardboard and is 100% recyclable. The best part about it? It folds, allowing you to bring your bed anywhere. For more information, visit Karton Group.

High Fidelity Canopy

How fun does this one look? There is a built-in television screen which allows you to watch your favorite shows, surf the internet and play video games without ever leaving the bed! It also has blinds that will block any sunlight while you sleep. Pretty cool, huh? For more information visit Hi Can.

Guess Who Sleeps in This Beautiful Bed?

There's something so compelling about a four-poster bed.
There's something so compelling about a four-poster bed. This one, especially, is demanding my attention. The ornate, carved medallions and the graceful turned wood extensions are classic, yet very cool, especially when paired with very modern Kartell Bourgie Lamps on the bedside tables, and a plethora of hip pillows.

The owner of this bed has a hit HGTV show, and was recently featured in Matchbook magazine. Can you guess who she is?

Desire/Acquire: Elegant Canopy Beds

I love the romantic elegance of the Anthropologie Italian Campaign Canopy Bed ($1,700, queen-size frame).

I love the romantic elegance of the Anthropologie Italian Campaign Canopy Bed ($1,700, queen-size frame). With a durable wrought-iron frame and a timeless beauty, it would be an incredible addition to any bedroom.

However, given the fact that you'd have to pay close to $2,000 for a frame alone, by the time you outfitted the rest of the bedroom with mattress, linens, furniture, and artwork, you'd have to spend nearly all of your time in the bedroom, simply to justify its expense.

If you're in love with this bed but can't bear to spend so much on the frame, good news. I've found a cheaper option for a wrought-iron canopy bed

Does Your Bed "Float" in Your Room?

In our home, the bed is tucked into a corner to preserve space, since the footprint of the room is decidedly small.

In our home, the bed is tucked into a corner to preserve space, since the footprint of the room is decidedly small. Even if we had the space, I doubt that I'd be tempted to let the bed "float" in the room — that is, to place the bed so it isn't against any wall at all. Feng shui adherents aren't a fan of floating beds either, claiming that it creates negative energy in a room. Whether or not you ascribe to such ideas, a floating bed is rarely a practical choice for most standard bedrooms. I can see the look working in an open loft, or a room where the bed is the singular focus in the space. However, add in dressers, artwork, and other needed furniture pieces, and the look can get a bit messy.

What's your say? Are you a fan of the floating bed, or does the look not hold water with your personal tastes?

Roundup: Dreamy, Feminine Beds

Ever since I came across this beautiful Moroccan bedroom in interiors photographer Brian Park's portfolio, I can't stop thinking about traveling to Morocco myself to find that room . . . and take a nap in it. The starkness of the room, warmed up by the deep blue walls, is such an interesting contrast to the ornate, feminine bed; the overall effect is so peaceful and inviting.

I may not be able to take a trip to Morocco in the near future — I may not even be bold enough to paint my bedroom walls this shade of blue — but a dreamy bed like the one in the photo is certainly within reach. I think my favorite is Anthropologie's Dawning Lark Bed ($1,998), but I'd settle for any of them. Take a look at the rest of my picks below, and tell me which one you're dreaming about dreaming on!

Roundup: Country Strong-Style Beds

Opening today, Country Strong stars Gwyneth Paltrow as Kelly Canter, a country music singer struggling to overcome her addiction issues. The film is a must see for die-hard Paltrow fans (check out her guitar-strumming skills at the CMA awards), as well as the young country set.
In this scene, the always-pretty Paltrow lounges on a sturdy, wooden-framed bed that could be aptly described by the movie's title. If you're looking for a similar bed frame, go-to sources are Crate and Barrel and Pottery Barn, which can both offer plenty of options in the country-strong bed category.

My favorite bed in this style, however, is the Room and Board Heartwood Bed ($1,600). It captures the feel of the bed Gwyneth is lounging upon, while avoiding the bulky mass of wood that the movie version suffers from. The Heartwood features Arts-and-Crafts-inspired lines and handcrafted, quality workmanship.

Online Sale Alert! Anthropologie Doggie Gear

If this bed matches your home decor, you know it.

If this bed matches your home decor, you know it. A mismatched patchwork pattern makes the Wildfield Dog Bed look like a one of a kind and, from that Frenchie's smile, I'd say he approves. If you were coveting this bed at full price ($148), it's on sale online only for $100.

Or, if your pet's in the market for something warmer for outdoor adventures, the wool Tagalong Dog Sweater is marked down to $50 from $78 as well. Is that still too much or just enough?
