What's America's Next Great Food City?

What's Columbus, OH, got going for it?

Columbus, Ohio SkylineWhat's Columbus, OH, got going for it? According to The Washington Post, a lot. It's poised to become America's next big food city. Writes Jane Black, "The once-conservative Ohio capital has blossomed into a certified food lovers' town, with serious cocktails and microbrews, pastries worthy of Paris, fantastical ice cream flavors . . . and extraordinary food shopping."

The boldness of her statement got me thinking about what other US locales have proven themselves worthy food destinations. I'd personally argue Austin, TX — it's known for everything from barbecued brisket to crêpes to breakfast tacos. What town do you think has what it takes to become America's next big food city?

Fun times for all as member pups, peeps, and their new pals run around in the 11-acre Companion Club Dog Park.

Fun times for all as member pups, peeps, and their new pals run around in the 11-acre Companion Club Dog Park. For pups that love to sniff, there are wooded trails to stroll down and the above agility courses for the most energetic ones! Switch it up and let pup dip in Golden Pond – at over two acres, the pond itself is bigger than many city parks. Be sure to bring an extra towel for a free, self-serve dog wash area to use afterwards. Best benefits go to those with big, dog families – annual membership costs $395 a year, but it includes up to four furry family members in each plan! On the safety tip, the park requires members and visitors to provide proof of vaccination upon
entry . . . for fun, and safe, playtime for all!

Out and About: Ohio's Wegman Exhibit at the Wexner

While you may know him for his iconic Weimaraner photos, William Wegman: Funney/Strange is 40-year retrospective of much of his painting, collage, video, and, of course, that amusing dog photography!

While you may know him for his iconic Weimaraner photos, William Wegman: Funney/Strange is 40-year retrospective of much of his painting, collage, video, and, of course, that amusing dog photography! With stops in New York, DC, Florida, and Massachusetts, it has been in Columbus since late September and will conclude its national tour here in the Midwest. This exhibition is located at the Wexner Center for the Arts and features a special project by this "inveterate jokester" in the lobby. If you're in the area (or traveling here for the holidays), catch it before it leaves on Dec. 30.

Out and About: Ohio's Posh Pets

Even if I am traveling without North, I can't pass by a local pet shop without a stop in.

Even if I am traveling without North, I can't pass by a local pet shop without a stop in. I love when the owners take the time to seek out independent vendors with extraordinary products to lavish on our pals. If I wasn't here being PetSugar, I'd love to have a little boutique of my own! I'd certainly take inspiration from Columbus's Posh Pets, which offers the finest dog and kitty goodies. Its online store only hints at the variety (like a Catnip Body Pillow and the Pimpin' Tank), so if you're in the area, stop in for more.

This shop is located in the Short North Arts District, a hip area of town with galleries, boutiques, and cafés. Take a pooch for a shopping stroll to check out the sights, and stop at Emack and Bolio's if the weather's nice for a lactose-free doggie treat sundae for his good behavior!
