The Scoop: Charmin Wins Crufts!

Do you recognize this furry face?

Do you recognize this furry face? It's Cha-Cha-Cha, Charmin. (Sorry, I'm feeling punchy.) The Sealyham Terrier won the 2007 AKC/Eukanuba National Championship, captured the terrier group title for the 2008 Westminster Dog Show and now just won Crufts Best in Show! After last August's documentary claiming the Crufts Kennel Club allowed (or, at the very least, did not protect against) damaging breeding practices, both the RSPCA and major sponsor Pedigree pulled out of partnerships with this event, and the BBC television refused to air the show. I hope the organization evaluates and improves upon this issue going forward and, although I almost didn't cover this event at all, I decided that this stateside cutie deserves his moment to shine.

Charmin Thinks Ass Hygiene Is the Sh*t

Have the toilet-paper people run out of crap to talk about?

Have the toilet-paper people run out of crap to talk about? For a long time, the buzz was about how "soft" various brands were, followed by the exciting "double-roll" sitch, and now . . . TP butt residue? This is fearmongering at its finest. I can't say I'm familiar with the "pieces left behind" problem, but now that Charmin raises the issue, I'm officially paranoid. Toilet paper clinging to my shoe, I can handle. Butt my ass? Let's not go there.

Toilet Paper Wedding Dresses

Most brides-to-be would include Vera Wang, InStyle magazine, and the Fashion Institute of Technology as their wedding-prep dream team.

Most brides-to-be would include Vera Wang, InStyle magazine, and the Fashion Institute of Technology as their wedding-prep dream team. Others, like the following women, will settle for Charmin, Cheap Chic Weddings, and Ripley's Believe It or Not! They're winners in the fourth annual design-a-wedding-dress-with-toilet-paper contest. They could only use TP, tape, paper, and glue. Dang — these dresses are awesome! I just hope they were allowed to use 3-ply. They look pretty delicate.

Of the four groups showing tonight – Hound, Terrier, Non-Sporting, and Herding – three of the four pooches that captured Best in Group at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship have now captured their breed competitions at Westminster, too. That means, in addition to the other fabulous breeds included in those four groups, we'll see some familiar faces again tonight! Charmin, the Sealyham Terrier, that won both the Terrier and Best in Show title has captured the Sealyham spot, Geneva that captured the Herding group title will be the German Shepherd we see, and über-cute Uno, this 15-in. Beagle who won the Hound group, will be our Beagle du jour. Congratulations to those three pooches, and all the others that will be measuring up to the standards – I'll be updating as the show goes on, so check back on PetSugar tonight! In the meantime, if you're curious where little Uno is getting his exercise, read more

The AKC/Eukanuba National Champion Is...

What a great show this year!

What a great show this year! Even though it was filmed in Long Beach, Calif. back in December, the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship premiered on TV last night. Of course, this was a must-watch for North and I as we curled up with a couple friends and some popcorn and peanut butter. After going through each of the groups, the final seven pooches – five females and two males – came out into the ring. After closer inspection and some deliberation, this Sealyham Terrier was (figuratively) crowned best in show! With a full name of Ch Efbe's Hidalgo At Goodspice, the pooch is called Charmin for short . . . earning that ultra cute name because of his resemblance to a ball of white fluff! To learn which other dogs topped their groups (and see when you can catch the next airing of this show), read more
