>> Kate Middleton's sartorial diplomacy is already winning accolades. Arriving Thursday in Ottawa, Kate kicked off her 11-day tour of Canada and the US in a lace dress by UK-based, Canadian-born designer Erdem. Middleton reportedly has quite a few more outfits planned for the trip — 30 looks in total — and if the first few are any indication, more nods to both her home country and host countries are in store. She did not bring a stylist or dresser with her, but appears to be moving away from wearing so many High Street designers. Click through to see all of Kate's travel outfits, with more to come as the trip continues.
Canada Loves Will and Kate
Kate Middleton looked sweet as maple syrup today, getting in the Canada Day spirit with a maple leaf hat and a broach she reportedly borrowed from Queen Elizabeth, who wore it on her first trip to Canada in 1951. Canadians returned Kate's tribute to their country by coming out with signs proclaiming Canada loves Will and Kate. It's already been a packed day two of their foreign tour for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge; they attended a citizenship ceremony outside Ottawa and greeted fans at Parliament Hill.
July 1 marks Canada's birthday — the date in 1867 Britain combined the colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada into a federation of four provinces. Technically Queen Elizabeth is still the symbolic head of state, so when he becomes king, William will fill that role. July 1 is also a special day for the Duke of Cambridge, as it was his late mother Princess Diana's birthday. She would have been 50 today.
