Summer's officially over. Sigh. I like to think North and I are best suited for dry-land adventures (or boat trips, of course), but this Boston Terrier gives me hope. Guido not only bravely dives off the dock and swims to fetch a toy, he then climbs a ladder at the end! Impressive. I'll be grabbing a life vest and luring North into the water next year!
Happy Eighth Birthday, Licorice!
Someone's having a birthday today — Licorice! Famke Janssen's adorable smooshy turns eight years old today. To honor the anniversary of this Boston's birth, check out her favorite traveling and shopping buddy from coast to coast (and Canada!) in this slideshow! Happy "Arf"-day is more like it for this pooch!
Do Tell: Do Your Pets Open Boxes?
My lil boy will open a present on command but I can't see him digging into a box! I'm totally impressed by the chompers on this Boston:
Do Tell: Will Your Pets Destroy Your Things?
"Oooh, Scooter, Daddy's gonna be mad!" Um, yeah, I'd say. This owner came home to quite the pleasant surprise disaster — not to necessarily cite this as pro-crate-training evidence, but I know I'd look into it after one day of cleaning up this mess. Sound familiar?
Breaking News: RIP, Monk — Q-Tip's Boston Terrier!
It's a sad, sad day for smooshy lovers as rapper Q-Tip tweeted today the death of his Boston Terrier, Monk:
Monk my dog has passed on. . . . He was a warrior. He had a brain tumor and cushings disease. Miss u already buddy . . .
Named for the Jazz great, Thelonious Monk, I remember this pooch from his appearance on the Martha Stewart Show earlier this year. You know the one where she "crafted with both Q-tips." Check out the pup's scene below.

Super-Cute Video: Boo Takes the Cheese!
Oh, Boo, you silly villain! If you're gonna take the cheese, you shoulda thought to hide it . . . or gobble it down right away. Luckily this cute smooshy seemed more interested in holding the hunk in her mouth and I'm betting Boo's owner snatched it away after the cameras stopped rolling!
"Boston Terror" Chronicles: North Vs. TubNub (and Microfiber Towel)
Although I like to think North is pretty neutral to bath time, his pals at Wag Hotel tell me he loved the hydromassage he got on his last stay. In an attempt to recreate that at home, I tested out the FURminator TubNub ($13) on my pooch. A rubbery tool with nubs to massage a pet, work in the shampoo, and stimulate hair follicles during bath time, North seemed to enjoy this easy massage and it left my other hand free to hold him steady.
I finished up his bath time with this Microfiber Towel ($18) — pretty and green, it was barely damp after I dried him off! Check out the products up close, and see how well they cleaned North's fur below!
What Do You Know About Boston Terriers?
Sometimes I feel like a walking Boston Terrier encyclopedia — after all, my love for the smooshy breed goes waaaay back . . . almost seven years! In honor of my lil boy, who definitely fits the personality description of spunky yet affectionate, test your breed knowledge in this quiz!
Bring a Little Love to Your Walls With These Etsy Dog Prints
Just in time for someone's birthday this month (and by someone, I mean he's got four legs, is black and white, and goes by the name of North), I can give us both a b-day pressie and order one of these adorably original Boston Terrier art prints straight from Rubenacker's Etsy Shop to hang on my wall.
Good news for you non-Boston owners: Rubenacker doesn't only craft Boston Terrier prints (there are some other smooshies making an appearance, as well as a number of other breeds), although I happen to be a little partial, naturally. Ranging in price from $11 to over $100 dollars, there is something for everyone. I have picked out a few of my favorites from the "Boston's in Hats" series, mostly cause he has nailed the dog-with-a-hat-on expression so well — embarrassment with a little touch of annoyance tossed in for flavor.
Readers' Choice: Best Commercial Featuring an Animal?
It's no surprise the classic MasterCard trilogy featuring a Boston Terrier is my favorite animal commercial of all time. Badger's so cute and his story really tugs at my heartstrings. Seriously, cannot watch without tearing up (color me sappy). Check out Vol. 1 below:
Share your favorite commercials (by telling the product and animal featured) and I'll see how many I can track down! Now, see the final two parts of the smooshy's journey home, read more
