There's some sad news out of LA this evening: Jessica Simpson's pooch was taken by a coyote. She just tweeted about the picking of her precious Daisy right in front of her face. I cannot even imagine:
My heart is broken because a coyote took my precious Daisy right in front of our eyes. HORROR! We are searching. Hoping. Please help!
Unfortunately, coyotes present a constant danger for outdoor pets and it's hard to track exactly what happened after the dog disappeared. If you allow pets outside in areas where these animals (and other dangerous creatures) roam free, please let this be a lesson to you. Fingers crossed for a miracle to bring the maltipoo home.

Fall's coming and although we've tackled poisonous Summer wildflowers, that season's (sadly) almost done. Let's get into the Fall spirit by looking at more flowers — each of these either begin blooming in autumn or continue through September (or later!) in some climates, so check out the pretty plants and see how well you do!
As often as you see mama cats carrying kittens by the scruff of the neck, this is not a safe way to hold a grown cat — even lightweight felines are too heavy to be supported properly by just that excess, loose skin. However, you may still see your vet use this technique (with another hand under the rear), since it causes the cat to go limp long enough to lift her on the table or slip a med.
So what's the best way to approach and pick up a kitty pal? Find out when you read more
Fetch and repeat is a favorite game for many frisky pups. Now even though his mouth waters when he sees the ball (and will happily run wherever you toss), it can be hard to continue play after nightfall. But not with this toy.
The Glow-in-the-Dark Whistle Ball ($15) shines brightly to help him along and is equipped with mini whistles that hum as it goes — if you're still practicing your speedy pitch, the harder you throw it, the louder it whistles! Like many of my top ball picks, it fits into the standard size tosser if you want to keep the slobber away from your mitts. Game on!
Clearly, cat owners, your home's not cutting it. Allowing felines free reign is one thing, but is your backyard still missing their second house? The Cat Teepee ($300) is like a fancy version of another wacky product — with three additional levels for cats to climb and rest, it's a whole playground for outdoor pets. The door that lets kitties frolic on the grass can be left open or looped shut so indoor cats can get a touch of sunshine without roaming far.
Before you immediately balk at the price tag, especially if you live in a climate where some months are too chilly for outdoor time, remove the netting and the teepee can set up shop in your living room — are you sold yet?
