My time in LA would not be complete without a fab party, yummy cupcakes . . . and pressies for North! My fave store I visited was Beverly Hills' Doggie Styles – not only was everyone super friendly (including the in-store Frenchie and Boxer) but they had some super-cute pet gear to boot. Now it's much chillier up in the Bay than in SoCal so when I saw this black velour hoodie ($39), I couldn't resist bringing it home for North's nighttime walks. Well, hello there fluffball. Seems like you can stand after all . . . although you must not move quickly because I don't think I'd put my crazy pooch that close to the x-ray machine super fun looking tunnel. Jessica Simpson, Ashlee, and Daisy geared to get up and go at LAX yesterday – it seems like they brought a ton of luggage, so hopefully including all the right adventure gear. Despite her ever-shaggy mane, I do love this pooch so see some more photos (with the Sac Chien) when you read more
With only a few species of salamanders and worms known to be without lungs, a species of frog – the Barbourula kalimantanensis – was added to that very short list after being discovered in a remote province on Borneo Island. In August of last year, David Bickford, an evolutionary biologist at the National University of Singapore, was one of the few expeditioners to discover the unique amphibian. The small brown spotted frog, found along the fast moving rivers of the island, brings an interesting comparison from the researcher:
"These are about the most ancient and bizarre frogs you can get on the planet. They are flat and have eyes that float above the water. They have skin flaps coming off their arms and legs," describing them as "a squished version of Jabba the Hutt."
Straight out of a Star Wars flick, researchers say that the frog (although totally weird) is not a mistake – the species has evolved to adapt to the cold and oxygen rich rivers that it calls home. And this may sound totally crazy, but I would think that breathing through your skin can't be all that bad. I mean, you wouldn't have to worry about asthma, pneumonia, and lung cancer, but if your pores got clogged, would you have trouble breathing?
I don't get a ton of time to check out Podcasts as much as I'd like to, but when I do I usually go to straight to the PetLifeRadio section on iTunes first. PetLifeRadio is like a one-stop shop for all the pet info that you can handle, including a ton of fun and informative videos, pet fashion tips, as well as health information from certified veterinarian Dr. Bernadine D. Cruz called The Pet Doctor. This channel is one of my faves since Dr. Cruz offers a broad range of subjects that are super informative and easy to understand, so I'm not struggling to keep up with the medical jargon. Even though J.J. may not have been our puppy of the year, you've gotta admit he's pretty darn cute. His co-starring role isn't just with the paparazzi, check him out in a new promo video for Mariah Carey's album, E=MC², released today!
Well, well, well I wonder if that's what all celebripups think . . . do you agree?
On the first week's episode of Groomer Has It, Jonathan and Jorge were the top two at grooming these yarn dogs! Jonathan was crowned the winner for "Candyland Surprise," do you agree or did you like Jorge's (or another's) dog better?
Well, the first episode of Groomer Has It was full of snarky surprises! This week's "Quick Sniff Challenge" required the 12 groomers to correctly identify nine dog breeds. Sounds easy, right? Well, maybe when we're playing guess what breed, but these contestants had to name those dogs . . . blindfolded. While some of the pooches were pretty obvs (like a Bulldog and Boxer), others required a bit more expertise – one groomer actually ID'd all dogs correctly (including a Dalmatian and an Australian Cattle Dog!) to get a special advantage in the next challenge – grooming these shaggy yarn pups. With three hours to create a masterpiece using slickers, scissors, and dyes, see who was the first to leave the doghouse after the judging when you read more
