It’s time to get clever! A picture is worth a thousand words, but those messages vary from person to person. I think this photo is hilarious; what do you think of it? Suggest quotes or captions for this photo in your comments below, and I’ll do a roundup next week of some of my faves.
I have heard of some interesting training tactics in my day to teach pets various lessons. Similar to the suggestion to toss a pebble-filled water bottle in the general direction of a barking dog to get him to stop yapping, this is a noisy device to deter your cat from jumping on the couch.
The Jumpo Trainer ($5) kind of reminds me of a bear trap (only it's not lethal, thank goodness) but designed to make noise to keep your cat or birds from going into places they shouldn't. Once the target area is triggered, the Jumpo jumps up, rattles, and your kitty is scared away from whatever you are trying to keep her from. I'm all for training aides to help me along the learning curve, but I'm just a little skeptical that this scare tactic would actually work . . . without causing a cat to go mental!
This week on PetSugar we learned the cold, hard facts about Bordetella and what not to feed your lakeside birds, and we found out who won the coveted Palm Dog award in Cannes! What else did we uncover this week? Take my quiz and show your stuff!
Last week's horrible earthquake in China caused devastation across the country. The area is home to many pandas, both in the wild and at several zoos and reserves. These black-and-white creatures you see here are chomping on their fave diet of bamboo at the Chengdu Research Base in the Sichuan Province. There are eight giant pandas from the Wolong Giant Panda Reserve – about 20 miles from the epicenter of the deadly quake – calling this their temporary home. Today they'll be flying the friendly skies in a special plane. Destination: Beijing, where the creatures will soon make a new home and be on public display at the Beijing zoo! There are more of these cutie pies when you read more
Now we already learned a little something about sea turtles, but what about all those other turtles in the world . . . found on every continent but Antarctica! One thing that always confuses me is the difference between a turtle, a terrapin, and a tortoise. Do you think you know? Find out in this quiz.
Happy World Turtle Day! In honor of this occasion honoring the leathery backed creatures, I wanted to share a sweet story with you. It stars this female Yangtze soft-shell turtle recently relocated to a zoo in Suzhou, China. The 100-pound gal is the world's last-known female of this species and is now the Changsha Zoo's star attraction. Known as Rafetus swinhoei in scientific terms, the danger of extinction looms closer each day —she's 80 years old. That's not that old in turtle time considering some species can live up to 200, but still not looking good. Is there any hope for a revival? A male turtle somewhere on the planet perhaps – find out when you read more
