Designed by students for students, the 2009 Back-to-Campus Collections from Barnes & Noble are poised to hit shelves in a few short months. The collaboration began in 2007 with Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) students while, this year, the bookseller invited Pratt Institute students to participate as well. Check out a few of the Fall 2009 products from SCAD and Pratt students, available at Barnes & Noble stores nationwide (and online) beginning in mid-July.

Retail Happenings: Inside Inven.tory's SoHo Store
Less than a year after opening their acclaimed Nolita boutique, the three fashion folks behind Inven.tory have gone and done it again--only this time the space is warehouse-sized. With the same retail concept in mind, to sell emerging brands at wholesale prices, Inven.tory makes it that much easier for independent brands to sell overstock, samples, and one-offs without resorting to Century 21 standards. After a successful Cheap Monday pop-up event to kick things off, the new shop is now fully stocked and open for business. A look in the new space in the gallery below.

Isabel Toledo Retrospective Poised To Open This June
It was announced this week that a fashion retrospective celebrating designer Isabel Toledo is slated to open at FIT's museum this June. The retrospective, entitled "Isabel Toledo: Fashion From The Inside Out", will display approximately seventy looks from the mid-1980's to present, including pieces from Toledo's time as creative director of Anne Klein. The retrospective will be open to the public from June 17th through September 26th. We'll be reporting on the retrospective when it opens but, for now, check out a first look at some of the designs included in the exhibition.
Smith + Butler Do New York Pop-Up Shop With Moscot
Later this month Brooklyn cult-boutique Smith + Butler is taking occupancy at the Moscot space in Manhattan's Lower East Side. Smith + Butler, responsible for something of a Steve McQueen renaissance in Brooklyn, stocks classic American work wear and Motorbikes, among other Americana-inspired items. Moscot seems an apt partner then--the New York-borne eyewear company has been in business for almost one hundred years now and still contends with hip eyewear brands like Ksubi with their retro-inspired styles. The temporary space will host both Moscot and Smith + Butler's newest Spring offerings from March 27th through May 25th.
Cheap Monday Custom Jeans Tour Hits New York
On March 18th, Cheap Monday will be landing at Inven.tory in New York to sell off fifty limited and numbered pairs of jeans as part of their custom jeans tour. The patched/ripped/dyed jeans retail for just $70 each, so it comes as no surprise to learn that the batch assigned to each leg of the tour--in Stockholm, Copenhagen, Berlin, and London--were all but sold out by the time the second case of beer was finished. See Cheap Monday's photo diary below and, for more, check out the brand's Fall 09 collection where these denim incarnations first made an appearance.
First Look: Zero + Maria Cornejo Opens New Flagship
After ten years in Nolita--the space where the designer became, for the second time in her life, a frontrunner in the fashion world--Maria Cornejo has moved her business to a much larger space which now serves as her New York storefront, atelier, and showroom. Possibly the most architecturally riveting quality are the lead framed windows which are, to a New Yorker, the equivalent of owning a time machine to a much older, cooler version of the place they live. Leave it to Cornejo, who is always so effortlessly in-the-know.
Check out a first look at the new flagship below and, for more, Cornejo's Fall 2009 collection and a just-launched sale of the designer's clothing on Gilt Groupe.
