A Red Tibetan Mastiff became the world's most expensive dog when it was bought for a cool $1.6 million. But this Chinese breed isn't the only pricey one out there. We've rounded up the nine other most expensive dogs — check 'em out!
With this season's chilly temps, it's especially important to keep your pet toasty and safe. Heidi Ganahl, CEO and founder of Camp Bow Wow, shares some important tips on caring for your furball this Winter:
- Never let your dog off the leash in snow or ice. Although it may seem like a fun option to let your pup frolic in the snow, it can prove to be extremely dangerous. Dogs tend to lose their sense of smell in extremely cold weather and become lost. Believe it or not, Winter has the highest rates for lost dogs!
- Thoroughly wipe down your dog when he comes back into the house after being in the snow. It is common for dogs to ingest salts for melting ice as well as antifreeze, which can prove to be very toxic.
- Similar to how you should never leave your dog in the car during the Summer, the same goes for the Winter; a car can act almost like a freezer in the Winter, trapping heat outside and causing your pet to freeze to death.
- Fresh water is a must at all times, as your dog may be more likely to lick ice and eat snow if he/she is thirsty from lack of water. Similar to the above point, it is common for dogs to ingest snow-melting-salts and antifreeze.
Any tips to add?

If you're an apartment dweller with a dog or cat, you may not have the space for a floor-hogging pet bed. But don't fret, Akemi Tanaka has a chic solution: mount it on the wall! The Curve wall mounted pet bed ($200), which comes in maple and walnut veneer, has a removable, machine-washable cushion cover and provides a comfy resting space for your small, furry companion. With several cover choices (or you can even customize it with your own fabric) and its sleek shape, it saves space without cramping your style. See some of the variations below!
When you're not looking, even the most feuding of furballs can be caught snuggling with each other. And some of the unlikeliest pets — big and small, cats and dogs — can end up pals. I've rounded up my fave BFFs (best furry friends), so take a look!
Designed to look like a giant cupcake liner, Sweet Cake ($212) has many uses, including planter, baby bathtub, and drink cooler. But throw in a pillow and it becomes a pet bed, perfect for small pooches and kitties. Lightweight and durable, this container is made of thick polyethylene and comes in 10 different colors. I think it's cheeky and fun — what do you think?
Tierpark Zoo in Berlin, Germany, introduced us to the sweetest little baby leopard! See more pics of Nekama, a baby North Chinese leopard, in my slideshow! And try not to squeal at the lil furball!
This St. Patty's Day, the other pets in the neighborhood will be green with envy when they see your pup or kitty strut her stuff in a festive collar. Whether you go with a bling-ed out fashion statement like this crystal-covered collar ($39) and glitter number ($15), something understated like this simple striped one ($14), or something quirky and fun like this green beer collar ($24), you'll have one lucky furball this March 17! Très chic! I'm smitten with Studio Legohead's dog illustrations! Not only does she have adorable painted postcards and greeting cards featuring stylishly dressed pups, she also does custom pet portraits. My personal pick would have to be the Pooch in Pucci card ($4), but take a look at more of her work and tell me which one catches your eye! Bowties, pearls, and hats, oh my!
Are you as into Maru the cat as I am? When it comes to viral pets, I didn't think anybody could beat Boo the Pomeranian, but this mischievous box-obsessed kitty is some tough competition. Watch the hilarious video of him above to see this feline in action! This isn't the first time I've seen a cat with a strange fetish, so I'm wondering, what's your pet's obsession?
Unless you live under a rock, you've probably seen Boo the
stuffed-animal Pomeranian-turned-Facebook-sensation before (maybe even on CNN?). With more than 800,000 Facebook fans, he is über-popular and unmistakably adorable, but are you over the furball frenzy? Click through the slideshow of Boo's cutest pics and tell me at the end how you feel about the lil guy.
Snow can be fun for pups to play in, but it's important for them to stay safe in the cold temps as well. A recent Wall Street Journal article points out that certain types of dogs need to be protected from the elements during the Winter. And as we've seen, pets in sweaters are not just cute, they're protected from cold-weather-inflicted health ailments to boot. So click through my slideshow for some stylish outerwear for your furball's Winter well-being.
Don't these tigers look just like giant cozy kitties all snuggled up together? It was a Winter-white snow day at the Bronx Zoo, and while some animals like to play in the snow, these felines are keeping it mellow. See the purrrrty pictures below!
