I have two cats and two litter boxes in my laundry room. I used to have a screened in patio with a litter box outside. However, a hurricane took care of that. No more screen.
I wish I had a whole room for my cat. Haha spoiled, I know, but If I had one I would, like someone above me said, just to keep the food, litterbox, and everything else in one place.
We use and under-the-bed storage bin as a litter box for our 3, so after moving it all around the house we finally found a home for it. It is behind the jukebox in the gameroom, which we angled into the corner and put plants around, so nobody knows it's there. We used to keep it in the closet, but we had some OCD guests push the door closed a couple times, and the babies were "protesting" before we realized. On the bed, no less.
I don't have cats, because well, I don't like their smell. But, my ex boyfriend had a couple, and they kept their litter box, of all places, in the kitchen! That is just disgusting! You don't want to smell a litter box when you are trying to think about food, or eat for that matter! If you keep your litter box in the kitchen, I must ask, what is wrong with you?!
For now we have 2; one in the hall outside the door to the room where we used to keep our first kitty when we were gone and he was a baby- until he wigged out and now has free reign over the house. The one box is still right outside that door, though, since he knew it was in that room. For a while, everytime he went in that room he would get pretty upset so we closed it. He's better about it now but we still have it closed.
The other box is in the kitchen off to the side by the garbage with a cover. It still bugs me that it's in there, though. We are waiting until our kitties are bigger and able to comfortably go down the basement steps, and when that happens they are going down to one box and it will be faaaar away in the basement.
There is one in my bathroom, and one in their play room. It's funny because sometimes my male cat likes to do different deeds in different boxes. He'll go #1 in one, then trot to the other to do #2. :)
