While traveling with my parents several years back, they made some "grown-up" friends at the resort. Later, running into one woman by the pool, my mom introduced me. The woman's response upon hearing my name: "Ohhh, that's my dog's name."

She was lucky I didn't push her into the water. Anyway, my pooch has a non-traditional human name but I'm not opposed to "people" names, as long as I don't have a bad association with that same one. P.S., after you vote, don't forget to play our Wacky Cat Name game to see if you get any name inspiration!

I guess one of my dog's names is a human name (Mattie). But I don't know anyone with that name, so it's not weird.
1I foster kittens, and I always give my kittens "human" names. I think it's more dignified.
2I named my dog Chloé because I like the name and I dont know anyone with it. I also like the designer with the same name.
3I have given all my creatures human names with one exception. I was given a kitten and told he was a she. Named him Hope after the character on Days of Our Lives. Then the vet said "HE needs a new name." Hope because CAT.
My other creatures have been:
4Max (a hamster)
Tucker
Iris
Libby
Chloe
Ursula
Oops - Hope became CAT.
5My girl has not only a human name, but a human middle name...Sadie Grace. What can I say, she is a girl from the South!
6Almost all of my pets had human names. All of my dogs had human names. I had a lab named Joseph, a Greyhound named Porsche, a Jack Russel/Rat Terrier named Kimo, there's Zena (Decker Rat), Sandy (hamster), Pebbles (hamster), Spotty (guinea pig) and Red Alert (guinea pig). Rodents tend to have pet names, dogs-human names.
And Zena's unofficial middle name is Louise. My mom found a dog finally worthy of what was supposed to be my middle name.
moonlissa--Sadie Grace is a beautiful name for her! She looks like a Sadie Grace. Do you know her breed(s)? She looks like a Lab/Shiba mix.
7my dog is named ava
8All of my animals have human names. My pup is named Prudence, my male cat is Harry (he came with that name from the shelter, but he was such a Harry I couldn't change it), and my female cat is Gracie Lynn. I find that giving fur babies human names makes them seem like actual members of the family and not just pets.
9My dog definitely has a non-human name (Shenanigans). However, a few of our friends call her "Nanner" which is also what we call our friend Suzanne. Needless to say, Suzanne was not pleased when my friend told her we could just refer to her as "Big Nanner".
10Our last dogs name was , is, Abigail. or Abby for short, or Abs, Labby the abby, labbers, gabby, aaaabbbbyyyyyy, big baby girl, etc. She is a black lab, and she would respond to any version of her name. lol.
We have also had a Guess,(black cat), Egypt, (stripe cat) Fat cat, (tabby) Shadow(german shepherd) Wolf( shepherd mix) Brownie dog( red color irish setter) Princess( white cat) ...........
11My family pets have always had human names. Right now, my dogs are Lulu and Coco. As a kid we had Henry, Maggie and Mandy (dogs), and Penelope, Bettie, Edgar and Ozzy (cats).
I feel like the human names embody their personalities more than non-human names based off of their physical characteristics would.
12Nothing wrong with a people name though I wouldn't name one after someone I know. That might get a little weird when they are near each other.
13My dogs are Thor and Nori... Nori is named after a friend of mine. He's a musician and filmmaker, and when he becomes famous, I will totally be like, "Hey, my dog is named after him!".... (He already knows). My cats are Eva (after Eva Peron) and Scabby McPurrins.
14all my animals have human names!!! allie, tiffany, phil, suzi, and chloe.
15Used to know a guy who's parents in MO had a rottweiler named Jennifer...I guess it's fine.
16I think any name that strikes your fancy is fine.
17I have a dog named Echo (girl).
I've also had a ferret named Angus; a rat named Magnus and another rat named Rat. It all depends on what you are into. But when I had cats I always tended to give them fanciful names, I have no idea why.
I've had cats named Lola, Luna, Artemis and Stinky.
I have two dogs, Benny (the one in my photo) and Maia (his sister). When they are in trouble they get their full first name Benjamin and Maiabella. They're my children, why shouldn't they have an appropriate name?
Benny's name came from Elton John's Benny and the Jetts. I know it's a girl in the song, but when my hubby and I were first dating and we were driving home after getting Benny, that song came on the radio and it was one of the few songs that we both liked.
Maia's name came from wanting something mythological that pertained to her. She was born in the spring and she is a gentle and beautiful soul (she's a therapy dog) and we thought the Greek God Maia (Goddess of Spring and Beauty) worked well. The "bella" part was added to make it a full name.
18My name is Maggie, I frequently meet people whoes first comment to me is "that's my dog's name!". How am I supposed to react to that? As a result I don't give my pets human names.
19My mother's name is Molly. Do you know how many pets there are out there named Molly? I've never seen her get upset about it, not even once. I know some dogs who are much better people than some humans, so I'd be honored to share my name.
We gave our dog a human name: Chelsea. It just fit her. I've only met one human Chelsea who was offended. But our Chelsea seems just fine with it!
20My boyfriend has a cat named Roger. It creeps me out all the time.
21My dog's name is Chloe. It seems to be a popular name on here
222 dogs, Daisy and Missy, and a cat we call Mao.
23Mostly animal names (I guess) many strays/shelters over the yrs: Jefferson (after city of Jefferson/& pres) stray cat; Mango (dump dog) after Jimmy Buffet "Last Mango in Paris" song; Smokey (dump dog) was black; Sandy (stray red dog); Ranger (stray lab/akita) liked the name;
24grandoggies: Texas (shelter) and Ellie (shelter)
just liked those names...
Our dogs (2 schnauzer/terrier mix's) are named Maximus and Leonidas. (they are little warriors) We call them Max and Leo for short... or poops, pooper, dude, buddy, guy and nugget. They kinda answer to anything
25My cats name is Shakira...
