Bettas can be kept as community fish so I did in fact get number 5 correct. Also betta in general doesn't say much. I'm guessing betta splendens though. King bettas can grow up to 3 or more inches.

How oftenn do you have to clean the tank?

I had one when I was little and he jumped out and died too. Now I have a goldfish that won't die. It's lasted years.

Yep, bettas definitely can live in a community (female betta fish thrive in groups of three or more, as long as they have a big enough tank!) as long as there's enough space, they have places to hide, and the fish they live with aren't too aggressive or very slow/small.

Bettas are a good 'first fish' for people who want to keep fish (goldfish being another good one). They're cheap, so if they croak you don't feel too bad, and they can tolerate a variety of water conditions. They're prettier than goldfish, but in my opinion don't have the 'personality' of goldfish.

Yeah, I have to agree with flyingroo also. The correct answer should be: "It depends" since it's not always false or always true.

I agree with flyingroo about the whole cohabitation issue. They definitely can live in a tank with SOME fish. While it's only a select few, it's not impossible.

I had a Betta that jumped out of the bowl...and a friend of mine had one that did that too, once my betta (when it was alive) lived with an algae eating fish for a good amount of time...

I'm going to go with flyingroo here. I've seen some pretty large bettas; one of my own males got quite large for being a generic pet-store save. As well, my ex HAS had a betta live quite well with other fish. I should have received 100% on this. ;)

Petsugar, please get your facts right: 1. Selective breeders have managed to breed males up to 3.5 in. 2. Betta CAN live happily with with other fish in the same tank, as long as they are not very small, not very slow, not having large flowing fins, not schooling fish, gold fish etc. It's true, there are quite a few exceptions, but you cannot say that GENERALLY they cannot be in a tank with other fish.

Hmm.. my first job was at Petsmart in the fish dept. We were instructed to tell customers that they could live w/ tetras like neons.

6/7...not too bad! just got the length the males can be wrong. I guess my perception of inches is off.

Aww that sucks for your friends. My cousin has and had beta fish. She is has two or three now. One if white and the other two are blue. They are kept in little vases with blue stones and just float around all day. She has had them for awhile and we're so glad that they haven't died from jumping out/forgetting to feed them. She has six kids all below the age of 10 so she is quite busy with her fish, turtles, and dogs.

I want to defend my answer to #6: My friend had a beta she kept next to her bathroom mirror that kept trying to jump out of the tank and attack what it perceived as another fish. It eventually died when it successfully leaped out and landed in the sink.
