Sea Otters Facts

Sea otters are the only marine animals that live their entire lives at sea without a protective layer of blubber. Luckily, they have the densest fur in the entire animal kingdom. To keep warm, they must clean and maintain their coat at all times. There are two layers in the sea otter's fur, which they groom as many as six hours a day, first cleaning it by rolling in the water, then fluff-drying it by blowing air between the two layers, which acts as insulation like blubber would for a seal. If you ever have the somewhat-miraculous opportunity to witness an otter grooming, it looks a lot like it's giving itself a deep-tissue massage.
