Furry Rafts

Poignantly signifying their adventurous, free-drifting lifestyle, a group of sea otters is called a "raft." A raft can be anywhere from two to 100 sea otters, with the largest recorded raft containing nearly 2,000 sea otters! Rafts of sea otters often nap together, which is where the hand-holding proves useful. In order to maintain the raft and not drift apart, sea otters will hold hands (or paws) and even wrap themselves in kelp like a blanket.
