If garlic is so bad for dogs, why do most dog foods contain it? In fact, the manufacturers put it in to make it taste better to dogs. I have also read that adding a little garlic juice to their food will help repel ticks and fleas.

I would love to see a list of spices and foods that are toxic for dogs. The one I always hope everyone knows like the back of their hand is that chocolate is VERY toxic to our four-legged friends.

I don't have a dog, but always knew about the spices that were bad. It always baffles me when people give their dogs table scraps, since they so often have onion and garlic in them.

Chicken bones are good when you are feeding your dog a totally raw diet - my dogs eat Stella and Chewy's freeze dried raw, but you have to supplement daily with bones for dental health - when bones are cooked, that is when they become brittle - I personally don't give my dogs chicken bones anyway, (chicken thighs are the preferred bones to feed, but I have 4 chihuahuas, and just give them marrow bones...their coats are like velvet - I learned a ton about food once my Paco (in the picture_ got cancer - now I will not feed my dogs any crap food at all - and no table food either! They eat healthier and better than I do!!!

ElleJay--grapes and raisins are bad for dogs as it poisons their kidneys (resulting in kidney failure) and messes with their gastrointestinal systems (causing diarrhea and vomiting). It doesn't take much either. Toxicity is anywhere between 9 oz. and 2 pounds.

oh, and chicken bones. don't allow dogs to eat chicken bones. these bones splinter when they are broken up and can become lodged in your dogs intestines causing major discomfort, internal bleeding and even death.

also, don't give your dogs grapes or raisens (sp?), they can cause kidney failure even in small amounts.

Ha ha - Nutmeg is actually dangerous to humans and other animals in medium to large doses. Thanks for re-informing readers that onions (all forms) and garlic are dangerous to your pets. So many people feed their pets foods that have onions or garlic in them not knowing the immediate harm they are putting their beloved pet in.
