I have to agree with the suggestion that putting a dog on a plane could be cruelty. The airlines treat humans pretty poorly...imagine how they treat animals! The web is full of horror stories about pet travel and while I realize that many airlines do their best, those stories are just too common. No flying for my Baxter. He LOVES car rides and has been to seven states (8 if I include Washington, DC) on road trips. We love having him with us and he loves the attention he gets at rest stops and pet friendly hotels along the way.

I can't imagine the stress flying is on a dog. Especially if it is in cargo and it's cooped up and alone with no one to reassure it. My poor dogs could not do it - they don't do well separated from us and I can't imagine the fear they would have during takeoff and landing plus if you hit turbulence and to think I couldn't be there to help calm them down. i guess it's a different story for small dogs that can be in the cabin with you. For my dogs, I think it would be borderline cruelty - I could only do it if it was for moving someplace where we just could not drive the car (like hawaii) otherwise, I'll take the 2 weeks to drive my fuzzy kids to the other coast.
