Two ten pound bags of Iams for Small/Toy Dogs a month at 11.99...About 23 bucks. Not too bad.

Now, if you factor in Rawhides (3 bags a month @ $7 = $21), Peanut Butter (Low Fat), Milk Bones...Probably around 55-ish a month.

I hope I am not the only one who is stuck buying ultra hypoallergenic food, it is a bank-breaker and all three of them eat it which costs about $75 for a 27lb bag... BUT.. it is worth it, they all like it and nobody gets sick or the itchies

~75 cents a can for Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys, and Pancake eats 2 cans a day, so $45 in wet food. Add in another $5 for dry food and a few bucks for occasional treats...

I spend $50 on a 27lb bag of food and each dog gets 2cups a day. So, I think the bag last 1 1/2 months. I dunno. Too much.

Not very much, probably about $6. My dog's food is $14 for a 6 pound bag, but it lasts 3 months, and his treats last a long time, too, because he's small.

It used to be about $30.00 for two small bags of food a month. Then she went on a hunger strike, and the only way to make her eat was to mix the dry food with wet food. I know she is totally spoiled rotten!

I buy him 4 lbs bags for about $13 each and it lasts about 3 weeks. I also buy tube food and grate a little onto his kibble. That's like $8 but lasts a little over a month. I have no problem spending money on his food. Why would I expect him to eat the cheap crap? I want good food for myself so I want good food for him too!

I have a american staffordshire mix with pancreatitis so I have to buy prescription dog food that's much more expensive than the purina one I was using. For the largest bag (best deal) it's $60. One bag lasts two months. She had stopped eating and was sluggish, the vet did some blood tests and found out her pancreas was inflammed. She can't have treats/rawhides anymore, so I do save in that area. I just use her new food for "treats". She gets just as excited for the kibble as she did for treats.

My dog has digestive issues, so I have to feed her something fairly high-quality. I feed her Natural Choice Chicken/Oatmeal recipe, which runs about $35 for a 40 lb bag. I buy it at the farm supply store instead of the pet store (it costs $10 MORE at the pet store for the exact same stuff). My cat gets Cat Chow Indoor Cat formula, which works for him...keeps him from getting hairballs.

For all of you using Purina/Iams/Science Diet etc:

For your dog's health,considering switching to a better brand (Innova, Solid Gold or Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul).

Even though they cost more per pound YOU FEED YOUR DOG LESS since there is less useless filler (like corn meal) than the junk brands (and YES junk brands includes Iams). It does NOT cost more per month.

Less food = lasts longer = less poo = same price = healthier dog.

And no, I am not a paid plant - I just researched on my own and was FLOORED when I found out this stuff. Plus, the poison issues continue from last summer. My dog's coat looks better, less gas (sorry but she IS a boxer...) less poo (always a plus), same cost.

Also, Chicken Soup for the Kitten Lovers Soul costs about 80 cents for a wet can twice the size of the Fancy Feast cans.

All told, maybe $40 for both critters (55 lb boxer and 6 lb kitten)

I have NO IDEA!!! We spend $125 every 3 months on their meat rolls and then have to buy all their dry stuff. That we go through at varying rates b/c we have a dog that is a picky eater and some months he eats more than others. We also have to vary a protein add in for the picky eater and that varies in price. So all said I really have no idea how much their food costs every month....Though I hope never to have another picky eater for a dog!!! I love Auggie very much but keeping him a healthy weight is such a chore!!

and I agree with plus-2 we use Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul. It is the only dry food Auggie has eaten for more than a few months. (he separates his food when he wants to) he has been at a more healthy weight since starting it, and its recommended by the Whole Dog Journal

Totally agreed with plus_2_kid also. I feed both my dog and cat Innova. The cat was on Wellness for a long time, but I switched this past year because I wanted to make sure he was getting an even higher quality food that met all his nutritional needs. He eats mainly dry, but every morning, as a special treat, he gets 1/4 of a large can of Wellness or Innova wet food. It does get a bit expensive, but they're worth it. My babies are very babied.

I have a small dog bu I usually buy a big bag of food. I only feed her holistic food from the pet store I work at and I get a good discount. The bags are about $30 and it lasts 3 months, so $10 a month.

I do a rotation diet and each bag last a little over a month depending on what brand but it is usually

$38 for a 16.5 pound bag of Acana Grassland's Formula

Also to ShinyCrazy instead of feeding the prescription diet dog food you could instead feed a much better quality lower fat dog and save money at the same time.

Half of my dog's diet consists of Nature's Balance Vegetarian Formula and he also eats organic, cage free scrambled eggs, organic string cheese, and sometimes organic cottage cheese, and organic yogurt. Oh, and he also eats lots of organic fruits and veggies. Only the best for my furry friend!

Agreed, plus 2! It's so important to feed your dog quality food. Science Diet/Iams/etc. is full of crap ingredients and cheap filler.

Yeah, I used to have to feed something like 3-3 1/2 cups of Eukanuba to Scout and now I feed only 2 cups of the Natural Choice. It's a lot more digestible and I've noticed that she doesn't need to poop NEARLY as much. I can't imagine what would happen if I fed her Dog Chow or Ol' Roy or something like that. I'd probably be scooping poop til doomsday, LOL.
