How Much Do You Pay For Boarding?

Although it largely depends on where you live, and what bonus services your pets receive, I'm curious how much you pay to board your furry friends . . . and if you know what your dollar buys you?

We've only had Logan for a few months, but we always try to find a way to take him with us if we need to leave town. Just this past week, a friend was in an accident and hospitalized a few hours away for 5 days. Since he has no family in the area, my boyfriend and I decided to get a hotel near his hospital for a few days so we could go visit him and give him something to do besides think about his fractured spine. First thing we did was find a pet friendly hotel so Logan could come with us. We paid a one time pet fee of $25 (and a $0.78 "hotel check" fee when we left - weird). We only visited our friend twice a day for 2 hours at a time and that was the only time Logan had to spend in his crate, since we went right back to the hotel and got him for a nice walk by the lake or just hung out there with him. Much better than being boarded and only let out for 15 minutes a few times a day! If, for some reason, we ever couldn't take him we would try to find a friend or family to watch Logan. But if we had to board him, there are a few decent kennels in the area - it's just not my first choice of pet care for my pup!

I have boarded my boys twice. We took them to a cageless boarding facility where they have free roam of a huge room which has outside access. There is someone who sleeps on a cot in the middle of the room with them at night. And during business hours they have webcam access for all the owners to check up on their babies. Costs about 25.00/night for each. Even with all that I hate to board them. Just doesn't feel right.

I have a friend house-sit but when I was researching prior to going on vacation the costs were around 50 bucks a night! (keeping in mind that I live in the NYC area)

I have only had to board my dogs once. I have friends who will watch the dogs at my house. Since I started college I have found all kinds of sitters who love having the house to themselves. I'm so lucky to have two brothers that are reliable and trustworthy.

I actually have a pet sitting business and will watch animals in their owners homes overnight (or just do walks) and I actually hear from a lot of people that they would never board their doggies. It is good for me, because I love the business, but I would have to say if I had a dog I don't think I would board it either. I have toured some of the better ones in my area and I just cant get over them being in cages all day.

Wow. I can't say that I would ever board my dog. If he can go with me, I'm taking him. And if he can't, then I'll find a way to take him anyway.

I've never had to board Sadie, but she would go to the same place she goes to for daycare. It would cost $25.00 a day for regular boarding, or $35.00 a day for a luxury space?!?!? Yeah, I know I would pony up for luxury! They get to go to daycare which costs me $22.00 a day so it is practically a bargain!

I pay nothing. Cuba stays with one of his doxie friends when I have to travel. The one time I did board him, it was a horrible experience and I vowed never to do it again!

We've never had to board either dog. We always have friends and family willing to looking after the pooches. Axle's the type of dog that EVERYONE offers to babysit, and Newton has a select group of people that he likes so much, that they're willing to take him whenever. (Newton doesn't like other people much, but once he likes you, he LOVES you, and it's pretty hard to resist!)

Our vet used to do boarding for $15 a night. It was fabulous. Then they stopped offering boarding and all of the other kennels in or near Philly are SO expensive. The one we take him to now is $19 a night but other stuff, like play-time, etc., is a la carte, so since we don't want him to just be locked in a cage for a week, we always get him a "play package." So it's really about $40/night. It sucks. :(

My parents or my in-laws always watch our pups when we are out of town....I have not been able to find a place that I feel is suitable for the "boys"!

The only time I've left B-Bop with anyone other then family, we found a dog sitter lady that took him into her home. I like that better for him and she charged us $20. When we went to Hawaii we left him with my parents so he could play with their dog for 2 weeks. They loved it

Usually I have a friend look after my pets while I am away. The only animal I have that needs to be boarded is my Double Yellow Head Amazon Parrot, Vree. Her boarding is $28 a night, for a large cage and play time. I've boarded a dog before with a regular kennel, I don't remember the cost but it couldn't have been more than $20 a night. The most costly are the vet boardings, which some of my cats have had after surgeries. One of my past cats had many surgeries and it adds up quick.

I've never boarded my dog! I just let my friend stay @ my house and look after her :) My friend still lives @ home, so she LOVES having her own place to herself! Then, I usualyl buy her something little too :)

I've never actually boarded my dog overnight. However, my husband and I used to pay a service to come to our house around midday to let Eegor out when he was still very young and I couldn't yet bring him to work with me. They charged $15 a day. Luckily I've got relatives and friends that can take care of him if my husband and I are out of town overnight.
