How Many Cats Equals Too Many Cats?

Over the weekend, a friend couldn't stop raving about some kittens up for adoption (like she brought it up on the way to brunch, at brunch, and while shopping afterward) so I finally asked why she didn't take one home. Her exact response was "I'm just one cat away from a crazy cat lady." I won't tell you how many kitties she owns, so I don't sway your vote, but I'm asking you — how many felines is far too many?

I grew up with a multitude of cats in the home. I think we had 11 at the most at any given time when I was a child. My wife and myself just lost 2 cats earlier this year to Kidney disease and agreed after we lost the elder one that we would start building our new kitty family. We weren't sure on an exact figure, but 5-7 was what we had discussed. We have a fairly good size home, and prepared ourself with some cat specific furniture, and other cat friendly options to keep them entertained. Right now we have 2 burmese, a bombay, Tortise shell, Main Coone, Russian blue and finishing our family off with a Yellow/white tabby. We feel comfortable with 7, and enjoy them greatly. Alot of the time, you will find them all sleeping on our bed, but on occation they will scatter about the house in there own favorite spots. With this many cats, it does bring a fair amount of responsibility with caring, cleaning and maintaining them. We spend roughly 200$ a month on Liter/Food and various other items for them. We wouldn't have it any other way! I would like to think we are as sane as the next person, but then again, the definition of sane in this day and age is directly proportional to the person thats defining it.:)

at my parents house we have, currently, 4 cats and 4 dogs, but until recently had 5 and 5. we adopted all of the cats from shelters or friends with litters and the dogs were similar stories: one had been abandoned on the golf course and the most recent on the side of the road. having that many pets is loud and, obviously, extra housework, but it's not creepy!

it depends if like #runningesq you foster or something then its ok. But probably 4 or more and the person is probably a little weird.

i've got 2 cats and they're a handful when they're ready. i wouldn't trade my lil munchkins for anything in the world though. i've had cats all my life and frankly, i think they're only too many when you cannot adequately care for them. if you're able to take care of 20 properly and give them all the love and attention they need, then have 20. i'll stick to 2 at a time though, lol

We (my husband and I) have three rescue cats. I don't think it's creepy. I think it's nice that we saved them from abuse/ neglect and gave them a nice life. We also have a revolving door of foster kittens -- kittens aged 4-10 weeks that aren't ready for adoption. We feed them, put weight on them, play/ socialize, and get them ready to be pets. And when they are 2.2 lbs, they go back to the shelter for their surgeries and are put up for adoption. But if that's creepy - to give kittens a healthy, safe start in life, and to give adult cats a nice home - then to each her own.

2 is okay because they need company but 3 gets a little creepy...My hubby used to live with an ex and she brought 4 cats with her. Needless to say she was a little on the crazy side... Not trying to offend anyone, though...well maybe a little! ;)
