I go with Victoria Stilwell and the Positive Reinforcement method. Like she said, the dominace-submission methodology is very bad for dogs and no good owner or trainer will use it. People like Cesar Millan are a joke. He is no dog expert, he is a self-taught idot.
wow. that's a wild argument.
I definitely believe in positive reinforcement training and I'm a big follower of Victoria Stillwell's methods. She's great.
To plus_2_kid - positive reinforcement doesn't always mean you commend the dog with a treat, it can be a simple "good boy/girl" with a pat on the head. With positive reinforcement, it should get to the point where you don't have to give them a treat any longer.
By the way, does anyone else find it ironic that the woman advocating positive reinforcement was the one who starting yelling and beating her hands in order to make her point????
Just saying.....
dominance submission doesn't meaning beating the dog. What if you are out somewhere without a treat?
Plus, with studies showing the even our PETS are now overweight, the over reliance on treats in training is probably a bad thing....
I think I side with Victoria on this one. My dog was very food and toy motivated, so positive reinforcement worked well for me. Most often her advice is more about communicating clearly to the dog (with body language) so it understands what you want.
