Get Up and Go: Do You Call to Check In?

Talk about separation anxiety! When you leave your pal at daycare or with a sitter, how often do you call to check in? Now, there are times when I like to hear what's going on with my pooch, especially if he's at a new place, and I'd hope I'd get a call if anything went wrong. For those of you frequent phoners on there, I'm curious – what do you ask, what do you want to hear, and what's the craziest thing you've asked or heard? That's funny, we were just talking to a veterinary nurse about this this evening. Our cat is hospitalised with FUS and we call first thing each morning and visit him every day. We were starting to get the impression that they all think we're nuts, so this evening I asked her if it was unusual for people to visit their pets and she said yes! She said they have some animals in for a week or two without anyone coming to see them, and they also offer a boarding facility and she said people frequently leave their pets in for two weeks and have no contact with them till they come back to pick them up.

I text message the family I pet sit for every evening. Their pets are very old and I want the family to know their pets are ok.

I've only left him at one day care and with one pet sitter that wasn't family. The day care actually has cameras you can check out online LOVE IT! If anyone is ever is Santa Barbara, CA and needs day care, check out dioji it's amazing. life saver

something about just hearing "your cat played with this, and followed me around and is eating well" makes you feel like you aren't so far away. I don't know, its just nice to hear about them cuz you miss them!!

Usually I don't really call, as the people we have take care of the kitties know them well (knowing which ones like to be manhandled and which like face rubs) and know our house rules. However, there are exceptions, like last Christmas -- our oldest was obviously getting up in age, and was on a bit of a hunger strike/changing his mind frequently about what food was edible. I trust the people we ask to take care of them with "normal" situations, but this was a particular situation that could have caused problems my husband and I were already used to dealing with. Luckily, he kept eating the kinds of food we left for him until just after we got back, but I called 2-3 times those two weeks just to check in.

When I board my dog, I let myself call once a day. I ask if he's ok and if he's eating. I want them to tell me he's been wagging his tail and that the staff are spoiling him.

My poodle goes to my mother in laws everyday while I'm at work. When she was a puppy, I would call to check on her. But not anymore. She's a big girl now.

Boulder goes to my Mothers house when i need someone to watch him. she has 2 dogs and they (including my dog) are a pack. so i call to get all the funny story's of the day.
