Famke and Licorice's Big Bike Adventure in the Big Apple

Well hello there, Licky, how I've missed you! The now-8-year-old pooch tried out a different fitness routine — biking. There's been some recent news out in California about banning even recreational cyclists from ~~walking~~ running dogs due to the dangers presented to nearby pedestrians, but this pup seems to be in the clear for people territory.

Personally, I haven't ridden a bike since undergrad (save a couple vacation afternoons) and know my crazy yet scaredy cat pooch would not be too fond of running alongside something like this, even if I wanted to test it out. Have you ever tried this fitness routine, either for a quick trip or a lengthy excursion? They make special hookups for dogs if you want to take them on a big ride. They work really well. It only takes one 20 min. ride for my mom to tire out her dachshund instead of the previous 2 hours on a walk.

Riding a bike with a dog attached by leash is dangerous for both the dog and the rider. It is too easy for the leash to become tangled with the bike, which could cause injuries to the dog and/or the rider. Famke looks beautiful, and I know it's not cool but she should be wearing a helmet. A safer option: place the small dog in a basket at the front or back of the bike, and be sure the dog is attached to the basket so it can't jump out.

Okay you really have to know and trust your dog to do this. I had a friend who tried this with her very golden retriever and while riding in the park, it decided to take off after a squirrel. She and the bike completely fell over when it pulled very hard on the leash and she was all scraped up, bleeding and bruised.
