Sweaters on Dogs: Sweet or Silly?

Snowy days and brisk temperatures require extra layers for people, but what about the dogs? I offered some pointers on how to tell for sure, like if your pooch is visibly shaking outside, but I still see plenty of pups go bare. What's your take on this matter?

I wasn't sure how to answer. I wished for the option of: "If Necessary", but of course... Anyway, if a dog is small or has a short coat, bald spots, & keeping them fit & healthy with daily walks including cold weather, than by all means do it. Just remember that feet get cold! Booties a must. - It just irks me when ANY animal is treated like a toy & dressed up for "fun" or because their owner thinks it's "fashionable" - That's just sad (for the dog).

My dog has short hair and a nearly bald belly. She's clearly not designed for midwest winters. Even inside the house she has to be curled up under a blanket or wearing something. If I ever forget there's shivering and whining until I get her cozy.

It truly depends on your breed. A sweater on a Husky or a Old English Sheepdog is utterly ridiculous. A sweater/jacket on my Decker when it's below 10F is necessary. I know it's necessary because without one on she comes in trembling and shivering all over.
