Does Kitty Ring a Bell?

Does your kit's collar have a bell? While it's a good feature to let birdies and mice escape being your present, what about with those indoor cats? As a non-cat owner, I can imagine the ringing could get old when you are trying to work or sleep (even North's jangly tags annoy me) . . . especially for those kitties who fashion themselves to be night owls!

My three cats all wear collars but only our kitten Julia has a bell. We decided to keep it on her collar because she likes to find tiny places in the house and hide - like behind the washer and dryer, the top shelf of the walk-in closet, etc. I kinda like the bell sound; I think it's cute!

The bell always comes off every new collar before I put it on my cat. I would go crazy with a bell ringing around my neck all the time, so I imagine it would annoy the bejeezus out of my cat.

My cats don't wear collars. I love that clangy sound of dog collars, though. I have fond memories of hearing that sound followed by getting to cuddle with my family dog when I was little, so I LOVE it.

I love my bell collar. I just got him a month ago and I just moved back to my apartment at school. He's an indoor kitty but it's reassuring when I hear the bell...I know he's still moving around!

I could probably deal with it, but the bell drives Sassafras crazy. He gets scared of the noise and runs, but of course the noise follows him and scares him more. He ends up hiding under the bed until I pull him out and take the bell off. But he stays inside, so birds are safe.

I used to put a collar with a bell on for my cat. I loved the sound the bell would make and knowing where she is or if she's running around! But she's the sneaky hunter type, so I think that's why she kept removing it. Now she runs around naked.

My kitties are way to active at night for bells. I do put collars on when we are traveling though.

I put a collar on my kitten last week, it had a bell on it, ans she tried to rip it off, Luckily I saw her do this, she got the collar stuck in her mouth, wile it was on. Poor thing. I took the bell off and she has no problem with the collar now. Which I am ok with, it was annoing anyway. I agree, I can't stand my dog's tags making noise, a bell would not last long

My cat doesn't wear a collar. He had a green one with a bell once and he hated it so much he took it off of himself.

They would drive me nuts too. It's annoying enough when my kitty decides to play with her jingly bells at 3 in the morning!

I try to put one on my grey tabby, but he always seems to hook it on something and take it off!!!

While growing up, my cats were indoor-outdoor cats and my mom was always afraid that if they wore collars they could get caught on something and not be able to get fee. So I got into the habit of no collars. Now that I have my three indoor-only kitties, I still never got into the habit of having them wear collars. I'm not sure they would let me put them on them anyway!

I would love to have my kitty wear a collar with a bell but she'd probably claw my eyes out while trying to get the collar on.

For us, it turned out to be one of those sounds you get used to, like a grandfather clock or a fish tank, etc. Also, our cats turned out to be good at manipulating the sound -- one would still sneak up on you when he wanted, as he was able to "turn off" the sound, while his brother clearly enjoyed the sound of the bell and would sometimes manipulate his walking to make it go more. Right now, they aren't wearing the collars, however.
