While I'm lucky enough to know North's exact birthday (as he came from a breeder), I've got a friend celebrating her estimation of a pup's birth date while another celebrates her cat's adoption day as his birthday. What do you do?
Yes I know Kate's real birthday. August 14, 2005. Last year I had a party for her and made special hats with her name on it, and in fact all my church members came over. We sort of barked to the happy birthday song. It was a lot of fun.
Sonny's birthday is August 29, 2004 and he came from a breeder.
Usually I get him a new toy and put some treats in a bag for him to "unwrap". Last year, I went to Three Dog Bakery and got him a doggy cake and I plan on doing the same thing this year! :dog:
Dior and Sampson are both September babies and the averaged birthday for the two of them is September 15, I usually buy them some new toys and cookies from the dog bakery and my parents usually send them a card, then on the weekend we usually have a dog park party!
We know Jack's actual birthday since we went through a breeder and even had a deposit on him before he was born, we don't celebrate his birthday with any big hoopla or anything. We acknowledge it but no parties or anything.
Zena was born ten days before my other dog passed away--January 5. It's 16 days before my mom's birthday and 26 before mine. We also are going to celebrate when we adopted her--June 24.
I know the exact birth date for my two girls 9/12/03, they'll be turning 5 this September - Hooray! They where born 28 days after my Libby fell to her death.
And I know the exact birth date for our dog Nike - 3/10/03. She's already turned 5 and she's ready for kindergarten. Nike's birthday happens to be the same day although 17 years later than my oldest nephew. So her birthday is easy for everyone to remember. As a matter of fact when I adopted her and they told me what day she was born I thought it was kismet. Then when I gave her to my nephews I told my oldest nephew that he and the puppy have the same birthday and that we would no longer be celebrating his birthday but celebrating her birthday instead.
So far everyone has stuck to the joke. My sister gets a huge vanilla birthday cake and has the bakery put HAPPY BIRTHDAY NIKE! on it then in very small letters "Oh yeah happy birthday to Andrew too." My nephew thinks it's hilarious and he feels a really deep love and understanding for Nike since their both Pisces.
Both of our dogs are rescues, so we celebrate their birthdays on the days we brought each of them home. Both birthdays are always right around Memorial Day weekend, so its fun to have the long weekend to hang out with them.
The puppy is from a breeder so we know his exact birthday. The cats are from the SFSPCA so I imagine the birthdays they provided us are likely estimates. We do have dates for all three of them, but still manage to completely overlook them.
I know mine, as he came from a breeder. He'll be having his first birthday party in October! I didn't know the birthday of my previous dog, so I celebrated it on the day I got her.
My cat showed up on my deck one afternoon. He was a couple weeks old. I have no clue what his exact birthday is, but I can guess the month. I don't really celebrate pet birthdays anyways.
My little one is a rescue shelter pup, but the paperwork from the original shelter in VA made a guesstimate of her d.o.b, so we'll celebrate her first bday in Nov '09. Someone abandoned her pregnant momma on the side of a country road. We're not sure how long she got to spend with her mom, but her littermates were all adopted the same day here in MA in February of this year. Maybe we'll have a little celebration on her adoption anniversary as well!
Both my boys are rescues and we're lucky enough to know each their birthdays.
Axle was brought to the rescue when he was a mere day old, because his momma died while giving birth. Because of that, the shelter knew how old they were.
Newton was given to my by a friend of a friend who purchased him from a breeder. They gave me all his paper work, so I have his exact birthday.
It's neat because they're exactly one year and one month apart, so we have a big celebration in the middle celebrating both birthdays! This years going to be huge, as many friends and family have aquire pups and dogs in the past year!
