Although not our favorite new puppy of '08, here's that baby Shiba Inu we've spotted with Kelly Osbourne in recent months. While I'm happy to see any pup, it's not the first time I've spotted a celebrity pet in the arms of an owner . . . with no leash in sight.
Even though I'm one to scoop North up if I see something unsavory in our path, I don't think I'm brave enough to leave the house with him in my arms and no leash snapped on for security. Nevermind that this dog will soon be too big for such choices, but would you ever do like Kelly Osbourne does here?

No way, I'd never!
1I'm too nervous to take Ladybird for a walk without a harness and separate collar, just in case she wiggles out of one or the other! I'm a little overprotective...
2Uh, no. Zena is 35 pounds and she's a terrier. She'll run off the minute my arms get tired!
3uh, hells to the no!
4No, I wouldn't because even my little dog doesn't like to be carried everywhere. She wants to walk most of the time unless something scares her. Plus, dogs need exercise, and what if they have to go potty?
5No, to me its irresponsible.
Heck I put a leash on my cats when they go to the vet or groomer even though they are in their carrier. Should the freak and try to run I can prevent them from running too far and I can try to protect them from danger as much as I can. However, I have noticed that my cats act like there 2 oz cat leashes weigh 50 pounds when it attached to them. Cats are so overdramatic.
6Um no. Dogs have legs and feet for a reason. If her dog freaks out (which is not a big stretch since it's a Shiba Inu) and gets out of her arms, she's lost the dog.
I once saw a woman walking with her dog in her arms on The Embarcadero in San Francisco...near the Giants Stadium. If any of you are familiar with The Embarcadero, you'll understand. At one point she put the dog down to adjust herself, and a car backfired. Before you knew it...the dog was in the middle of a busy intersection and was nearly hit by every car that whizzed by.
By some miracle it made it out of the intersection and across the street, and took off up the street. The whole time the woman was calling her dog and it had absolutely no effect. Last I saw her she was running after the dog about two blocks up. I don't care how well behaved your dog is, it's completely irresponsible and dangerous to be outside without some sort of control over them.
Rant over.
7wack my cats are like that too. So dramatic!
8One more thing and then I'm done I swear!
Dogs are not children.
9Well, my Maisy only weighs 8 pounds and often goes around town in a purse, so, he usually doesn't have a leash on when I'm holding him. I of course would never put him down without a leash on, though.
10I wrote my comment on the wrong page! Anyway, I wouldn't do it. Also, I would be quite pissed as a patient if someone walked into a MEDICAL ENVIRONMENT carrying a dog.
11Blue - the Embarcadero is so dangerous for both pets and humans.
I had a chance to take a great apartment over at the end of Brannan at Embarcadero and have a great balcony that my cats could go on. I had to think long and hard about whether to move there or not and in the long run I didn't because I could imagine my girls getting out and wandering frightened out into traffic on the Embarcadero. Between the Metro and the cars speeding terror went through my mind. I turned down the apartment because I did not want to run the risk of my girls getting hurt so that I could have a better address.
12No way. It's not safe for them. And if you take the responsibility of a pet, then it's your job to protect them. That means a leash.
I'm like wack and even put my cats on a leash as well. It may look funny, but if they bolt I can have a chance to grab them.
13no.. first off I don't think the dog likes being held like that BELLY UP.... secondly it is dangerous.
Everyone stated how I feel so no need to repeat.
14honestly, my girls leave the house without leashes all the time. They come EVERYWHERE with us, and they listen really well and don't venture off or anything. So I don't put them on. Only for walks do the leashes come on.
15I carry Fuji short distances. Plus, 16lbs gets heavy pretty fast. i.e. I carry him to the laundry room which is located in the next apartment building.
16Since Shibas are known to be gate rushers. NO you can not walk around with them not on a leash. They will chase a pray without noticing their environment around them. One little squirm and she is out of her arms and on the street and FAST. Trust me I have a shiba.
17I used to carry my pup when she was a little baby. But she barely weighted 2 pounds then. She's now close to 5 pounds and I stopped carrying her around unless it's very cold (I live in Montreal, Canada) and she can't walk. I'll soon buy her booties so I won't have to do it anymore. But she is ALWAYS on a leash.
18No. It's too much of a risk losing the dog and this is bad owner behavior, which doesn't surprise me. That poor dog will have back problems if she keeps carrying it like that too.
19Oh, I forgot to say one thing. If you go outside with your pets without a leash (especially dogs), you may want to check out the state laws. Some states have a law that all dogs outside the home MUST be leashed.
This law is called the Leash Law (Where I live--Illinois--has it). If your dog is not leashed when out, you are liable for any and all fines. So please check if your state/country has this law.
20Wack it was truly ridiculous. I could not believe she just put the dog down and expected him to stand there and not move.
21I'd love to punch kelly right in the face.
How irresponsible can you be!!
Shibas are NOT reliable off leash.
ugh. i hate this chick.
22no way with a terrier mix! one scent, sight, or sound could set him squirming out of my arms! but my sister and parents have really mellow pugs and they are out of the house off leash all the time I think it depends on the pooch
23Not a good idea...your dog may be friendly, but you don't know what another dog might do if your unleashed dog goes up to just say hi.
24I let my dog off leash at the beach but keep her close and leash her up when other dogs pass by.
1. She's looking great.
252. Love the pup.
3. Maybe her leash is in her pocket or something?
okay, this is a recipe for disaster! i remember watching their reality show and was horrified about the care and behavior of their dogs. shibas need an owner that is willing and able to stay one step ahead of them, otherwise they take over. i'm betting that once the dog hits the "terrible two's", it finds a new home.
26How irresponsible this chick is !!!
When you own a Shiba Inu,you know that you can never walk him outside WITHOUT a leash. Those dogs I deeply love don't stand at your feet.
A Shiba Inu is NOT a Chihuahua,it is not a trendy dog or whatever.I'm utterly upset to see this....
