Do Tell: Do You Think Dog Paws Smell Like Corn Chips?

Seriously. I've heard all variations from Doritos and Fritos to nachos or regular tortilla chips — do you think doggie paws smell of eau de corn chip . . . or something else entirely?

My husband and I own 3 chihuahuas that all smell like Fritos! That's when we know it's time to bathe them. When they smell like Fritos.... Makes ya hungry sometimes.

Not LOL. I thought this "frito syndrome " was serious. Since reading here I find that it is a common dis-odor. :-) My theory is that it's 'cause most dry dog food is corn based. We've had 2 dogs (a Doberman mix and a Lab mix) whose diet was mostly dry dog food (corn based) and they each had the frito smell. Our first dog, a cocker mix did not have that problem. He ate mostly canned dog food(Alpo) all of his life. He lived to be 17 years old. Well, "you are what you eat" must be real.

Dogs feet smell like corn chips when they are detoxing. Most of the sweatglands in dogs are in the pads of their feet, therefore when they are sweating out the toxins, their paws smell like corn chips. It's a good thing every once and a while, but if they are smelling like that for an extended period of time, you may want to see a vet. We go to a holistic vet and we had this very discussion last week!

I agree! I was having this conversation the other day. I have a boston terrier and her paws really smell like some sort of chips.

Hahaha! this is crazy, my whole family thinks our dogs feet smell like fritos and we actually made up a little story about them and how when we are not home they all go to work at the frito factory and stir the mix and thats why they smell that way! omg, its great to know there are others with this hilariously weird train of thought. :)

YES!! I'm so glad I'm not alone here. I actually say they smell like tortillas, but tortilla chips work too!

Gosh, I thought corn chip piggies were strictly a Boston Terrier thing! Our Buster as a young pup, definite ode de corn chips. Not so much as a 7 yr old adult.

weird. i don't get that at all with my dog. the only thing her feet smell like is poop - when she steps in it. then i give her a hose down. i've even smlled her feet before too (checking for dirt and what not) and never thought it had a corn chip smell. maybe its certain types or breeds?

I don't know if it's her feet, but I swear Sassy smells just like doritos!! It's so funny! I love sniffing her head because of that. Mattie definitely doesn't smell like doritos. I don't know what she smells like.

It can't be the corn in their food because my dogs are on a human food diet and their feet smell like corn chips too!

I love that smell! My parents dog's feet smell like popcorn EXACTLY, but my puppy is much more like Fritos!

Yes! All of my dogs' feet have smelled like Fritos. I always thought there must be corn in their food.

thank goodness that my sisters and I are not the only ones that think puppy paws smell like doritos. now i know we're not crazy. wonder what that is though...

Haha, my husband thought I was crazy when he got me a puppy and I would constantly be sniffing it's feet. I kept tellin him it smelled like cheese or nachos and finally he sniffed one day and agreed. We love sniffing their feet - the odor changes from day to day - sometimes nachos, sometimes cheese, and sometimes it smells like grass if they played outside a lot.
