Do Tell: Do You Know If Your Pet Is Left or Right Pawed?

I'm serious! According to tests at the Institute for the Study of Animal Problems in Washington, DC, dogs and cats were shown to favor one paw over the other, just like many of us have a dominant hand, too! It's news to me so I went back to watch North when he was opening presents and playing with toys – I think he's totally left-handed . . . errrr pawed. Do your pets favor one foot over the other? I think Scout is right-pawed because that's the paw she always uses to hold onto bones and when I say, "Gimme Five", she holds up her right paw.

I would have to say that Oliver is ambidextrous. When he wants a soft food treat, he stands on his back legs and stretches his chunky front paws out to me with equal, unabashed enthusiasm. :)

My husband says that our dog is right-pawed, but I've never noticed.

Oh they both completely favor one paw over the other. Auggie is right pawed and Sammy is left pawed. I noticed this because they are both always pawing us to get attention. Sammy also leads onto all his agility equipment with his left paw, always...I guess it makes sense if humans are, so can any animal!
